Licensed Nurse - Bekaa

  • Conduct health screening of Persons of Concern (POCs) at UNHCR Bekaa Reception Centre prior to their admission to the premises, including:
    • Temperature checking using an infrared digital thermometer
    • A directed assessment questionnaire to check a) presence of COVID 19 symptoms; and b) being a close contact of a confirmed case. 
  • Support in ensuring respect for COVID-19 health precautionary measures at UNHCR Bekaa Reception Centre roadside and entrance areas, in accordance with UNHCR’s SOPs on Reception Centre Activities in the Context of COVID-19, namely that persons wear a face mask, maintain social distancing of 1.5 meters between families, and practice hand hygiene using a hydro-alcoholic solution when being admitted to the Reception Center.
  • Ensure refugees showing COVID-19 symptoms or flu-like illnesses are not admitted to the Reception Centre, receive counselling on PCR testing and/or other appropriate follow up, and are timely reported to the Bekaa Operations Cell and UNHCR Public Health Unit (PHU).  
    • The nurse will refer refugees with symptoms to a reference laboratory to do PCR while their information will be shared with the Bekaa Operations Cell for further follow up and with the PHU who will be asking the TPA delegate at the designated reference contracted laboratory for coverage of the PCR test fees following an assessment at the hospital emergency room. The Bekaa Operations Cell will follow on their PCR results and if positive results, they will conduct the contact tracing and the regular management according to the Bekaa Operations Cell scope of practice.
    • Refugees showing severe symptoms will be counselled for hospitalization at a contracted hospital while their information will be shared with the PHU to follow with the TPA delegate at the designated contracted hospital for hospitalization fees coverage following an assessment at the hospital emergency room. The Bekaa Operations Cell will be informed to follow on their PCR results and if positive results to conduct the contact tracing and the regular management according to the Bekaa Operations Cell scope of practice.
    • Refugees including children with mild symptoms such as respiratory illnesses or flu-like symptoms will be advised to seek care at a supported PHCC where the healthcare staff will manage their conditions accordingly.
  • Inform UNHCR Reception Centre Managers the names and UNHCR case numbers of refugees who were not granted admission in order to enable re-scheduling of their appointments.
  • Promote and counsel POCs on COVID-19 vaccination and share latest IEC materials and relevant information, such as the list of vaccine centers.
