Position:     Middle East Program Development Intern Location:    Beirut, Lebanon   ABOUT RELIEF INTERNATIONAL:   Established in 1990, Relief International (RI) (www.ri.org) is a leading global humanitarian organization that transforms adversity into renewal for the world’s most vulnerable populations. RI bridges the gap between immediate relief and long-term community development.  RI is solely dedicated to reducing human suffering and is non-political and non-sectarian in its mission.  RI is currently working in more than 30 countries to combat global poverty through humanitarian and economic development programs based on sustainable, enterprise-oriented solutions.   In the Middle East, RI is currently active in Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, West Bank/Gaza and Yemen.   POSITION SUMMARY:   RI is committed to enriching graduate and/or young professionals’ abilities to receive broad exposure to international relief and development and deepen their program development and coordination skills.  This will be an excellent opportunity to develop skills related to understanding the international relief and development sector, coordinating with other organizations, and preparing proposals.   Under the supervision of the Regional Program Development Manager for the Middle East, based in Beirut, the Intern will support the efforts of RI’s Middle East Program and Program Development Teams to research, track, analyze, and prepare for funding initiatives and opportunities, and helping to improve the systems to do so.  This will require research and writing, proposal design and editing, writing project summaries and communication materials, and other administrative tasks as assigned.  Development Interns support efforts in relation to grant-seeking efforts for USAID, Department of State, European Union, United Nations agencies and other bilateral and multilateral foreign assistance funding programs, gaining experience in needs identification and coordination, project design, and proposal writing.   ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:   Research and tracking of donors and potential opportunities, regional, country, and topical research Attend selected relevant events and meetings to take notes and share information Assist in writing, editing, proofing of project proposal sections Putting together information packages Writing capability statements and project summaries Assist in creating program communication materials Assist in administrative duties related to program development, as needed     QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:   This position demands an individual with demonstrated initiative to achieve results and contribute to a small but dynamic team. Interest in NGOs, international development, and foreign assistance Research experience and strong English language writing skills Strong oral and written communication skills General knowledge of Middle East affairs and international/intergovernmental institutions Professional demeanor and ability to communicate with colleagues at varying levels of superiority Strong interpersonal skills, ability to work independently, as well as part of a team Ability to commit to a minimum of 20 hours weekly; M-F varied schedule to be negotiated
