Beekeeping Trainer (Consultant)

Base: Short Term Technical Consultant (STTC)

Secours Islamique France and Safadi Foundation are implementing a “Food security and Livelihood” (FSL) project in Dennieh, Tripoli and El-Mina region. The main objectives of the Project are: 1) To Offer technical and financial assistance to farmers and food processing groups that would help them to develop and added value of their products in quality and in quantity, 2) To support farmers and food processing group with access to markets. The Project is part of a longer-term strategy aiming at supporting and reinforcing capacities of local stakeholders, mainly farmers, local rural women.

In response to the current crisis in Syria, SF want to extend its humanitarian response with a new food security project Funded by SIF, aiming at scaling-up its emergency support to Syrian refugees and affected population and support the Lebanese Farmers. In view of the operation scale up, SF is currently recruiting a Short Term Technical Consultant in Beekeeping to train women and men groups in Danieh region.

1. MISSION CONTEXT

Based on SIF Food Security and Livelihoods Needs Assessment conducted in 2019 for the areas of Mount Lebanon and the North; SIF designed a Food Security and Livelihood project that aims at:

• Offering technical and financial assistance to farmers and rural women cooperatives in the aim to increase the added value of their products.
• Develop and support a marketing strategy for farmers and cooperatives
• Capacity empowerment for farmers and for rural women for a better quantitative and qualitative production.

The Project is part of a longer term strategy aiming at supporting and reinforcing capacities of local stakeholders, mainly farmers, local rural women cooperatives, and related governmental entities (MoA and MoPW).

2. MAIN RESPONSABILITIES 

Design and deliver training for farmers on Beekeeping management for several villages in Dannieh .

1. OBJECTIVE OF THE CONSULTANT MISSION

General Objective

The general objective of the consultancy is to train around 15 people on Beekeeping.

Specific objectives

• Develop an appropriate curriculum and delivery for the Beekeeping
• Provide recommendations to SF and underline need and opportunities in Beekeeping sector .

2. The expected outcomes of this consultancy are as follows

• The Project expects the consultant to deliver the Beekeeping method to the participants (Farmers interested in beekeeping, vulnerable individuals interested in beekeeping, etc.)
• All the participants at the end of the training should be able to start with beekeeping
• The training has theoretical and practical part with field trips to beehives as needed

Reporting

Reports directly to SF’s HQ Office, to the Food Security and Livelihood Program Manager. S/he will submit the following reports at the end of the training sessions:

• The Narrative Report which includes: the number of beneficiaries, SWOT analysis of the trainees in general
• Recommendations

Person qualifications

• Certificate of agriculture
• More than 10 years of experience in beekeeping
• Track record of beekeeping practices and standards.
• Previous experience in training on similar subjects
• More than 2 years’ experience with international organizations
• Experience in managing and supporting beehives    
• Strong interpersonal skills and a supportive technical and communication style
• Strong command of Arabic (the training language)
• Knowledge of the Lebanese context in general and the mount Lebanon context in particular
• Publications in the domain are an asset
