Flash Report: Israeli Strikes Target Syrian Air Defense Near Tartus

Escalation in Syria as Israel Broadens Scope of Strikes

Israeli warplanes conducted airstrikes early Monday, March 3, 2025, on a military position in Syria’s Tartus province, signaling what appears to be a new level of escalation in Israel’s ongoing military campaign. Witnesses say the strikes hit an abandoned air defense battalion roughly 50 kilometers north of Tartus near the town of Qardaha.

While the Israeli military claimed the operation targeted a weapons storage facility, Syrian security sources insist the site had been largely inactive and guarded by only a handful of personnel. On-theground sources` further suggest Turkish-supplied military hardware had just arrived at the base, indicating Israel may be expanding its list of targets to include assets provided by Turkey.
