Case Worker - Beirut

ROLE PURPOSE: Under the direct supervision of the Case Management Officer, the  Case worker will be responsible for implementing activities related to case management, targeting highly vulnerable children and families including refugees and host- communities, enabling them to meet their basic needs whilst enhancing protection through a holistic approach.

 

CHILD SAFEGUARDING:

Level 3 - the responsibilities of the post may require the post holder to have regular contact with or access to children or young people.

 

SCOPE OF ROLE:

Reports to:  Case Management Officer

Staff directly reporting to this post: N/A

 

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY: 

- Work closely with other sectors/teams/partners to ensure their capacity building on identification and referral skills.

- Work across different contexts, including local communities, collective shelters, community spaces etc. with a particular focus on outreach work and support SC staff in identification and referral skills of the most vulnerable children (in line with organizational strategy).

- Receive, identify and refer cases of vulnerable children and families when necessary to relevant internal sectors and/or external service providers.

- Receive and record confidential documentation on vulnerable children and families cases.

- Provide information on existing social services and how to access them in the different areas of implementation.

- Build capacity of community volunteers on response to child protection cases.

- Conduct regular site visits to provide supportive supervisions on response for community volunteers.

- Submit weekly reports concerning implemented outreach activities, case load and related challenges.

- Participate in weekly case management and coordination meetings.

- Maintain files, registers, computer database and records in paper or electronic format.

- Work as a member of a team ensuring fluid communication of relevant information in order to make sure that work with individual cases is of quality.

- Ensure a strict adherence to the principles and minimum standards of child protection and child safeguarding at all times, including respect for confidentiality and always acting in the best interest of the child.

- Comply with Save the Children policies and practices with respect to child protection minimum standards, code of conduct, health and safety, equal opportunities and other relevant policies and procedures.

- In agreement with Case Management Officer and Child Protection Program Manager, perform other required duties within reason (in line with skills and experience)

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

- Degree in Social Work (desirable), or degree in social sciences or development.

- Experience in working with at-risk children and families, experience in case management in the emergency response (desirable).

- Experience in community mobilization and conducting outreach activities.

- Experience in project and team management (desirable).

- Understanding of social welfare systems and child protection mechanisms.

- Fluency in written and spoken Arabic, and either English (desirable) or French. 

- Ability to write weekly and monthly reports, develop schedules and collect data.

- Ability to work under pressure and willingness to work flexible hours in the event of major emergencies.

- Commitment to and  understanding  of  Save  the  Children’s  aims,  values  and principles  including rights-based approaches.
