ROLE PURPOSE: As a member of the Child Protection team, the Child Protection Assistant (adolescent and youth) will be responsible for implementing the child protection programme (mainly the program of PSS for children and adolescents) under the supervision of the Child Protection Officer with a specific focus on children, adolescents and caregivers. The Child Protection Assistant will work towards ensuring that programme implementation is carried out and that monitoring processes are in place, that timely reporting occurs.
KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:
The Assistants will play a critical role in:
Supporting the identification of suitable sites/location to set up and conduct activities
Supporting and coaching of animators and facilitators that target mainly the adolescent and youth.
Outreach in local community (urban neighbour hoods)
Deliver/ support the delivery PSS activities for adolescent and caregivers through Social Development Centres, Municipalities and other community spaces and mobile activities.
Lead set up and implementation of child protection networks, and supports the adolescent in the mobilization of their communities.
Assist in the organisation and implementation of awareness sessions for adolescents through the life skill sessions and the community projects.
Lead in the organisation and support the implementation of trainings and workshops that are related for youth and adolescents.
Build links between communities based initiatives and referral pathways to allow a more efficient access to services.
Work closely with the education and FSL team to ensure program integration.
Throughout the implementation of the project:
Facilitate the implementation of the Child Protection programme (particularly community mobilisation with adolescent and youth) under the supervision of the Child Protection Officer.
Liaise on a daily basis with the community and Save the Children supervisors and colleagues to guarantee the smooth operation of the programmes.
Provide information and advice beneficiaries on existing social services, referring them to partners when required.
Facilitate, collect and report information regarding the overall situation of the community where implementation is occurring.
Ensure a strict adherence to the principles of Child Protection at all times, including respect for confidentiality.
Any other related activities as per request of the Child Protection Officer, Coordinator and/or Child Protection Programme Manager.
Monitoring and Evaluation
Participate in regular monitoring and evaluation activities of the programme.
Produce timely reports for internal use on the activities in each location, highlighting challenges, best practices and lessons learnt.
Ensure that data is accurately collected on a weekly and monthly basis.
Ensure accurate data entry when necessary.
Adherence to Save the Children policies and procedures
Comply with Save the Children policies and practice with respect to child protection, code of conduct, health and safety, equal opportunities and other relevant policies and procedures.
In agreement with your line manager, perform other duties within reason (in line with your skills and experience)
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
At least two years’ experience in working with children\ adolescents and community mobilisation, preferably in an (I) NGO environment.
Bachelor’s degree Social Work or related sciences, Development/Humanitarian Studies.
Understanding of national development issues, in particular in relation to adolescent and youth.
Ability to analyse information, evaluate options and to plan strategically.
Strength in interpersonal and communication skills.
Fluency in written and spoken Arabic, good written and spoken English and/or French.
Flexibility and willingness to change work practices and hours and capability to work in an insecure and volatile environment.
Commitment to and understanding of Save the Children’s aims, values and principles including rights-based approaches.
Familiarity with Greater Beirut Area an asset.
