Child Protection Assistant (Focus On Hygiene Promotion)

ROLE PURPOSE: As a member of the Child Protection team, the Child Protection Assistant will be responsible for implementing the child protection programme under the direct supervision of the Child Protection Officer with a specific focus on hygiene promotion awareness sessions with children and mothers, psychosocial support activities for children and caregivers as well as working with community based groups. The Child Protection Assistant will work towards ensuring that programme implementation is carried out and that monitoring processes are in place, that timely reporting occurs.   KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:   The Assistants will play a critical role in: Supporting the      identification of  suitable      sites/location to set up and conduct youth activities Supporting and coaching peer      facilitators (youth) following on from their initial training, which has been      identified as essential to enabling new facilitators to develop the      confidence and skills to deliver quality activities. Outreach in local community. Deliver/ support the delivery of psychosocial      and recreational activities\ sessions. Creates a friendly space where children have      access to recreational activities. Lead set up child      protection groups. Assist in the organisation and implementation      of awareness sessions for children, adolescents, parents and communities      at large. Lead in the organisation and support the      implementation of trainings and workshops. Build links between      communities based initiatives and referral pathways to allow a more      efficient access to services. The assistant will be integrating in the hygiene promotion in CFSs and communities as whole. Help in the identification and assessment where applicable Supporting through recreational, cultural, psychosocial support for children by targeting them with hygiene promotion and key messaging Conduct follow up visits at the households level with the shelter team Identify and monitor any case of children and mothers during the field visits.   Throughout the implementation of the project: . Facilitate the implementation of the Child      Protection programme (particularly recreational activities with children,      awareness raising sessions with mothers, community mobilisation) under the      supervision of the Child Protection Officer Work closely with the shelter team, the      facilitators and staff as well as other local authorities etc.  Liaise      on a daily basis with the community and Save the Children supervisors and      colleagues to guarantee the smooth operation of the programmes. Work directly in the field with children,      parents and the community at the programme location/s.  Provide      information and advice beneficiaries on existing social services,      referring them to partners when required. Facilitate, collect and report information regarding the overall situation of the community where implementation is occurring. Ensure a strict      adherence to the principles of Child Protection at all times, including respect      for confidentiality. Any other      related activities as per request of the Child Protection Officer,      coordinator and/or Child Protection Programme Manager. Monitoring and Evaluation Participate in regular monitoring and evaluation activities      of the programme. Produce timely reports for      internal use on the activities in each location, highlighting challenges,      best practices and lessons learnt. Ensure      that data is accurately collected on a weekly and monthly basis. Ensure      accurate data entry when necessary.   Adherence to Save the Children policies and procedures Comply      with Save the Children policies and practice with respect to child      protection, code of conduct, health and safety, equal opportunities and other      relevant policies and procedures. In      agreement with your line manager, perform other duties within reason (in      line with your skills and experience) QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE At least two years’ experience in working with children and community mobilisation, preferably in an (I) NGO environment. Bachelor’s      degree Social Work or related sciences, Development/Humanitarian Studies. Understanding      of national development issues, in particular in relation to adolescent      and youth. Ability      to analyse information, evaluate options and to plan strategically. Strength      in interpersonal and communication skills.   Fluency      in written and spoken Arabic, good written-and spoken English and/or      French. Flexibility      and willingness to change work practices and hours and capability to work      in an insecure and volatile environment. Commitment  to       and  understanding  of       Save  the  Children’s  aims,       values  and principles  including rights-based approaches. Familiarity with Akkar and the refugee crisis.
