ROLE PURPOSE: As a member of the Child Protection team, the Child Protection Officer (with focus on Adolescent and Youth) will be responsible for implementing the child protection programme under the supervision of the Child Protection Program Manager with a specific focus on adolescents and youth. The Child Protection Officer will work towards ensuring that programme implementation is carried out and that monitoring processes are in place, that timely reporting occurs.
KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:
The Officer will play a critical role in supervising 6 CP Assistants working in three communities in Beirut, the CP Officer will:
Monitor the work of consultants/trainers for the program
Supervise and manage the performance of CP Assistants involved in the program and working with adolescents, youth and caregivers.
Coordinate with partners, community structures and SC staff to support program implementation
Ensure constant and transparent communication and collaboration with relevant community structures and community leaders and CP Program Manager
Ensure quality and minimum child protection standards are implemented and respected in all activities, including child safeguarding policy
Establishing and maintaining a weekly and monthly work plan which will include weekly monitoring visits to all locations where activities are implemented
Compile and write weekly and monthly reports
Ensure a smooth exchange between the SC child protection Team, beneficiaries and the community and providing technical support as needed
Share information on field-level successes and challenges with the Child Protection Program Manager
Build links between community based initiatives and referral pathways to allow a more efficient access to services
Work closely with the FSL team to ensure program integration
Ensure that materials are ordered and delivered to the staff working in specific locations as in a timely manner
Create and update of activity plans per activity/programme site and communicate the targets, programme objectives and activity plans clearly to children, adolescents, youth and the community at large ensuring they are well understood
Liaise on a daily basis with the community and Save the Children supervisors and colleagues to guarantee the smooth operation of the programmes
Liaise with local institutions, such as SDCs and municipalities
Facilitate, collect and report information regarding the overall situation of the communities of implementation and their families in the community
Ensure a strict adherence to the principles of Child Protection at all times, including respect for confidentiality
Monitoring and Evaluation
Participate in regular monitoring and evaluation activities of the programme
Produce timely reports for internal use on the activities in each location, highlighting challenges, best practices and lessons learnt
Ensure that data is accurately collected on a weekly and monthly basis.
Ensure accurate data entry when necessary.
Adherence to Save the Children policies and procedures
Comply with Save the Children policies and practice with respect to child protection, code of conduct, health and safety, equal opportunities and other relevant policies and procedures.
In agreement with your line manager, perform other duties within reason (in line with your skills and experience)
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
At least three years’ experience in working with children and community mobilisation, preferably in an (I) NGO environment.
Bachelor’s degree Social Work or related sciences, Development/Humanitarian Studies.
Experience in managing people and working in a team.
Ability to work under pressure, multi-task and meet deadlines.
Facilitation and coaching skills.
Excellent communication and presentation skills.
Good computer skills.
Understanding of national development issues, in particular in relation to adolescent and youth.
Ability to analyse information, evaluate options and to plan strategically.
Strength in interpersonal and communication skills.
Fluency in written and spoken Arabic, good written and spoken English and/or French.
Flexibility and willingness to change work practices and hours and capability to work in an insecure and volatile environment.
Ability to manage stress, be flexible and accommodating in difficult working circumstances
Ability to maintain consistent high standards of professional behaviour and achievement when working independently and as part of a team.
Commitment to and understanding of Save the Children’s aims, values and principles including rights-based approaches.
Familiarity with Greater Beirut Area an asset.
