PROJECT BRIEFING: For more than five decades, Save the Children (SC) has been operational in Lebanon and utilised a rights-based approach to increase access for children, adolescents and youth to quality education and strengthen child participation and protection at the family, school and community levels. Due to the Syrian Crisis, SC expanded the scope of its direct programme implementation in order to bring the response to scale and serve more children in concert with national and international partners in September 2012. Currently, SC has operations across 5 different sectors (Education, Child Protection, Food Security & Livelihoods), Shelter and WASH in Beirut, Tripoli (T+5), Akkar, South Lebanon and Bekaa.   Save the Children’s FSL programme currently supports household immediate food and non-food needs through food parcels for new arrivals; unconditional cash assistance; and WFP e-vouchers. In parallel we are strengthening the ability of Lebanese and Syrian households to improve their self-reliance and livelihoods.  One of our principal target groups is youth aged 18-24 whom we have been supporting to date with placements in humanitarian organisations as trainees; youth-led community initiatives and vocational training.    We are also supporting a sub set of particularly vulnerable households to get the opportunity to participate in more home based work or in home based livelihood skills training to help them support their families. The main focus is on developing skills and services that meet the needs of the refugee population complemented with business management and entrepreneurship training and linked to distinct market opportunities.
