ROLE PURPOSE:
The Remedial Support Facilitator will implement structured activities at Save the Children (SC) learning centers. The remedial support program targets children enrolled in public schools at risk of drop-out and supports them in specific subjects to increase their retention rate in schools. The Remedial Support Facilitator will provide students with extra support in the main subjects taught at schools and perform other associated duties as are reasonably assigned by Save the Children, thereby providing a safe, secure, stimulating environment in which each child achieves his or her full potential.

Level 3 - The responsibilities of the post requires the post holder to have regular contact with children or young people.
SCOPE OF ROLE:
Reports to: Education Officer
KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTIBILITY:
Relationships
- Work collaboratively with the relevant Education staff during the coaching sessions.
- Report updates of the center to the Education Assistant.
Particular Responsibilities
- Be fully aware of, and endear to, Save the Children’s Code of Conduct and Child Safeguarding policies and procedures and ensure its implementation.
- Maintain positive discipline practices in accordance with the Save the Children’s Code of Conduct and Child Safeguarding agreements.
- Demonstrate and encourage non-discriminatory working practices; encourage participation of all children without discrimination regardless of gender, ethnicity, language, culture, religion or learning ability.
- Monitor students’ progress and well-being; record and use learning outcomes to monitor students’ progress towards meeting lessons and curricula objectives. Teacher uses this to address the needs of his/her students and to inform his/her supervisor.
- Prepare a scheme of work, lessons/lesson plans and schedules on a weekly and monthly basis and commit to implement the schedule.
- Support and supervise children’s activities in SC learning centers.
- Ensure that children feel comfortable, safe and respected.
- Preserve a well-organized teaching area which displays children’s work and has readily accessible resources.
- Monitor and oversee the use and storage of all resources and equipment at the end of the day.
- Establish a child-friendly and safe learning environment in the classrooms by following a positive discipline approach.
- Supervise students upon reaching and leaving the classrooms and the learning center; follow up on attendance.
- Respect SC’s premises (ensuring classrooms are tidy and any accidental damage is reported).
- Attend and actively participate in trainings and meetings facilitated by SC.
- Commit to Save the Children’s aims, values and principles including rights-based approaches.
- Any other duties as required.
Child Safeguarding
- Comply with Save the Children policies and practices with respect to child protection, Code of Conduct, health and safety, equal opportunities and other relevant policies and procedures.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Holder of a university degree in the specialization matching the relevant teaching subject, or a degree in Education, Social Science or similar
- An understanding of formal and non-formal education and education in emergencies
- Good understanding of education quality issues, including child-centered, inclusive and active learning methods and willingness to continuously improve his/her skills
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills
- Fluency in written and spoken Arabic and French
- Ability and willingness to change work practices and hours, and work in an insecure volatile context
- Commitment to and understanding of Save the Children’s aims, values and principles, including rights-based approaches
Desirable:
- Prior teaching experience
- Experience working at community level with a wide range of stakeholders
- Prior experience in a similar position with a local or international NGO
