Shelter Assistant

ROLE PURPOSE: Save the Children Lebanon is implementing a large and varied Shelter and Non Food Item Program to meet the needs described above. The role is required in order to ensure community engagement with the Shelter and Non Food Item Programming at the field level. The shelter assistant will be responsible for assessing social vulnerabilities and communication with beneficiaries and communities. The shelter assistant will work in parallel with a shelter technical assistant and will spend 80% of their time in the field.  It is anticipated that this role will be needed for a minimum of 12 months. There is a strong likelihood that it will be extended depending on performance and pipeline funding. The contract length is dependent upon funding. SCOPE OF ROLE: Reports to: Shelter Officer   Reporting to: None KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY: Programme Implementation Support The Shelter Assistant will: Conduct beneficiary household vulnerability assessments; Provide beneficiary households with information about the Shelter Program and other Save the Children Lebanon activities Make referrals to other programs and agencies Lead community mobilisation activities Refer to the Shelter Officer if any protection concerns identified in the field. Conduct regular visits to beneficiaries Attend and support distributions Conduct Post Distribution Monitoring Provide daily/weekly reports, as requested. Comply with Save the Children policies and practice with respect to child protection, code of conduct, health and safety, equal opportunities and other relevant policies and procedures..   Monitoring and Evaluation Participate in regular monitoring and evaluation activities of the Shelter in Emergencies programme. Produce timely reports for internal use on the activities in each site/shelter, highlighting challenges, best practices and lessons learnt. Ensure that data is accurately collected on a daily, weekly and monthly basis. Regularly visit project sites to ensure that the community at large are appropriately supported and that qualitative and quantitative programme objectives was achieved   Adherence to Save the Children policies and procedures Comply with Save the Children policies and practices with respect to child protection, code of conduct, health and safety, equal opportunities and other relevant policies and procedures. In agreement with your line manager, perform other duties within reason (in line with your skills and experience)   QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE AND ATTRIBUTES Experience Minimum 1 years of work experience Experience in working with at-risk children and families Skills Minimum diploma OR bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Teaching or similar Familiar with Humanitarian principles Experience in community mobilisation and conducting outreach activities Understanding of social welfare systems and child protection mechanisms Proficiency on Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel, including management of Excel databases Good time management and organizational skills Fluency in written and spoken Arabic (English language skills advantageous) Strength in interpersonal, communication and presentation skills and teamwork Flexibility and willingness to change work practices and hours, and capability to work in insecure environment  Valid Lebanese driving licence Familiarity with the relevant geographic areas Note that this post is based in Kouwaikhat (Akkar), with frequent field visits to the shelters all over Akkar District.
