ROLE PURPOSE:
Save the Children Lebanon is implementing a large and varied Shelter and NFI program to meet the needs of the Syrian refugee crisis. The role is required in order to ensure technical quality of the Shelter and NFI programming at field-level. The Shelter Technician will be responsible for conducting technical assessments, technical monitoring and supervision and providing technical advice to beneficiaries and communities. The Shelter Technician will work in parallel with a Community Mobiliser and will spend 60 to 80% of their time in the field.
KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:
The Shelter Technician will:
Conduct technical assessments of existing shelters and buildings
Develop technical proposals and Bills Of Quantities (BOQ) and cost estimates including material, labour and transportation requirements
Prepare technical drawings, where required
Conduct regular site visits to supervise and/or monitor progress and quality
Support all technical aspects of quality control
Conduct regular visits to beneficiaries
Attend and support distributions
Conduct Post Distribution Monitoring
Provide daily/weekly reports, as requested.
Comply with Save the Children policies and practice with respect to child protection, code of conduct, health and safety, equal opportunities and other relevant policies and procedures.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Experience
Minimum 1 years of work experience
Experience of basic construction & distributions
Skills
Minimum diploma OR bachelor’s degree in Civil engineering, architecture, construction, urban planning or other Built Environment related field.
Familiar with technical aspects of humanitarian shelter and Humanitarian principles
Familiar with construction; including concrete and block works, plumbing, contracting.
Proficiency on Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel, including management of Excel databases
Good time management and organizational skills
Fluency in written and spoken Arabic (English language skills advantageous)
Strength in interpersonal, communication and presentation skills and teamwork
Flexibility and willingness to change work practices and hours, and capability to work in insecure environment
Valid Lebanese driving licence
Familiarity with the relevant geographic areas
