The Shelter Technician will support the implementation of the emergency shelter project in its different response. Under the supervision of the Field Manager and the Shelter Officer the Shelter Technician will:
do daily field visits to potential units to make a technical evaluation and to draw sketch for the present situation;
reproduce unit’s sketches drawn on the field into CAD drawings;
prepare a complete Bill of Quantities (BoQ) for the unit technically evaluated on the field;
the preparation of the BoQ will include: definition of items, describing the specifications, the quantity and the quality of materials required (including workers fees, machines renting, transportation fees…)
field supervision of the construction/rehabilitation of the units:
Daily visit to these units assessing the quality and quantity of the work done by the contractor (very good knowledge of materials, specification and prices)
Dealing with contractor/workers/self-help beneficiaries
Weekly meeting on the field with all the interested in this work
Daily reporting from the field to the technical coordinator on the construction/rehabilitation situation of the units
work continuously with the Shelter Officer and the monitors on the evaluation of each unit before assisting beneficiaries.
report back on logistics requirements, and fill out procurement forms when necessary.
be present in all the meetings related to the shelter rehabilitation.
assist in any kind of programs that show up related directly or indirectly to shelter rehabilitation or construction
assist in building a database of rehabilitation workers/ contractors, machine renting agencies
depending on Save the Children strategy he/she might assist the Shelter Officer and/or the Field Manager in all study, report or survey required during the implementation.
