CHILD SAFEGUARDING:
Level 3 – the responsibilities of the post may require the post holder to have regular contact with or access to children or young people.
ROLE PURPOSE: The Youth Basic Literacy and Numeracy Educator (Y-BLN Educator) will be delivering the regulated community based curriculum in Save the Children learning centers. The Y-BLN program targets youths aged between 15-24 years old who haven’t enrolled in formal education or are out-of-school for a period of more than 3 years and who lack the basic reading, writing and mathematics skills. The Y-BLN Educator will implement the Y-BLN curriculum by adopting the standard curriculum and books prepared by the Center for Educational Research and Development (CERD) in the classrooms and perform other associated duties as are reasonably assigned by Save the Children, thereby providing a safe, secure, stimulating environment in which each individual achieves his or her full potential.
Save the Children is recruiting Lebanese Educators to deliver the following topics: Arabic, Math, Life Skills, Digital literacy and English. Please indicate your preferences for the topic (Arabic. Math, Life Skills, Digital literacy or English) and location (Akkar or T5) in the email subject.
Essential Criteria:
- Holder of a university degree or technical license (LT) in the specialization matching the relevant teaching subject, or holder of a superior technical degree (TS) in the absence of higher university degrees and technical licenses. Bidders to provide copy of the certificate they hold.
- At least 1-year experience in teaching, Bidders to provide Certificate or to be mentioned in the CV with the reference).
- Bidder’s confirmation of compliance with the attached Save the Children Conditions of Tendering, Terms and Conditions of Purchase, Anti-Bribery and Corruption Policy, Child Safeguarding Policy, IAPG Code of Conduct, etc. Bidders to read and sign on each of the mentioned documents. - Bidder willingness to accept payment through CSC card in LBP. Bidders to submit a signed confirmation letter.
- Bidder’s registration in Lebanon: Bidder to provide SCI with copy of ID, Police record and residence certificate
- Bidders to confirm that they are not any prohibited parties or on Government blacklists. Bidders to submit a signed confirmation letter.
Desirable Criteria:
- Prior teaching experience preferably targeting students between the age of 15 to 24 years old. Bidders to provide Certificate-Letter
- 2-years prior experience in a similar position with a local or international NGO. Bidders to provide Certificate-Letter
Technical Criteria: 100% for the face to face/Online interview
Financial Criteria: 38,500 LBP cost per session “VAT Excluded”, Approximately five sessions per working day.
KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:
- Relationships
- Work closely and collaboratively with the Education Assistants, Education Officers;
- Report educational and administrative updates in the learning centre to the Education Assistant.
- Particular Responsibilities
- Adhere to Save the Children’s Code of Conduct and Child Safeguarding policies and procedures;
- Maintain a child-friendly and safe learning environment in the classrooms and the centre following positive discipline practices in accordance with the Save the Children’s Code of Conduct and Child Safeguarding agreements;
- To create conducive teaching learning environment where the students get education as per agreed plan with Save the Children;
- Ensure that children feel comfortable, safe and respected;
- Monitor and evaluate children’s learning progress and welfare;
- Maintain a well-organized teaching area which displays children’s work and has accessible resources;
- Control and oversee the use and storage of all resources and equipment at the end of the day;
- Demonstrate and encourage non-discriminatory working practices;
- Supervise students upon arriving and leaving the learning centres and classrooms;
- Assume responsibility of Save the Children’s premises, and ensure classrooms are organised and any accidental damage is reported to supervisor;
- Encourage parental involvement by being a link between the Education team and parents;
- Attend and actively participate in relevant and mandatory meetings and trainings provided by Save the Children or other stakeholders;
- Join the coaching sessions and participate in the Teacher Learning Circles;
- Cooperate and support the monitoring and evaluation process of the Education activities with a particular focus on learning outcomes; and
- Commit to Save the Children’s aims, values and principles including rights-based approaches.
- Curriculum
- The Youth-BLN Educator is accountable to implement the regulated community based Y-BLN curriculum; and
- The post-holder will share challenges and successes during the implementation of the curriculum with the Education Assistant, Education Officer.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE AND ATTRIBUTES
- Holder of a university degree or technical license (LT) in the specialization matching the relevant teaching subject, or holder of a superior technical degree (TS) in the absence of higher university degrees and technical licenses;
- An understanding of formal and non-formal education, Education in Emergencies, national development issues, particularly in relation to children and education, government institutions and the Lebanese public school system;
- Good understanding of quality education, including child-centered, inclusive and active learning methods and willingness to continuously update his/her skills;

- Fluency in written and spoken Arabic and English;
