Rainbow of Hope II SEARCH FOR COMMON GROUND LEBANON Search for Common Ground (SFCG) seeks an experienced consultant to work on development of a 6 month curriculum for children aged between 6 and 11. The curriculum should be completed and approved by SFCG by the 30th of September 2016. Background 1.1. Organization Overview Search for Common Ground (SFCG) is a non-governmental organization working to transform the way societies deal with conflicts. We have acquired over 30 years of experience in peacebuilding and are based in 53 local offices worldwide. SFCG first worked in Lebanon in 1996, and we opened up our office in Beirut in 2008. Since then, our activities and capacities have grown significantly. We rely on local staffas well as local partner organisations in order to ensure our work is culturally sensitive, sustainable and well-grounded in the Lebanese context. Therefore we work to achieve social change through transforming the way people deal with conflicts – away from violent and adversarial approaches, towards collaborative problem solving. Project Summary: The “Rainbow of Hope II” Project For the past 6 months, 520 Lebanese, Syrian, and Palestinian children learned conflict transformation, diversity, and equality values through storytelling and recreational activities in 20 locations across the country. The English curriculum was specifically designed to combine English learning with key concepts such as tolerance and empathy, helping the children overcome prejudice toward each other and appreciates the diversity of their surroundings. Through the support and hard work of “Rainbow of Hope” partners, SFCG was able to coordinate with 13 trained English teachers and 33 recreational activity leaders to implement the daily aspects of the project and successfully reach a diverse group of participants. This phase of the Project is now complete and we are looking to build on Rainbow of Hope II by developing a new curriculum for Rainbow of Hope III. 2. Goal and Objectives 2.1. Role and Responsibilities of the Consultant The curriculum will target Syrian, Lebanese and Palestinian children. The consultant will be responsible for: Preparing an outline for the new curriculum. Working closely with the Project Coordinator (PC)to evaluate the curriculum’ content of ROH II which targets participants between 6 and 11 years old. Providing feedback and direct input on adaptation strategies and approaches for the new curriculum. Suggesting stories and materials for the new curriculum covering level 1(beginner) and level 2 (pre-intermediate) of ROH III Leading focus group discussions during the curriculum preparation days with the teachers and animators. Working with the PC on gathering and evaluating the feedback of the 5 animators and the 5 teachers during the preparation days in order to include their ideas in the new curriculum. Developing a manual for the teachers and animators, including objectives, materials, and activities. Reviewing the final manual to be implemented for ROHIII and make recommendations for improvement. 2.2. Deliverables Notes from the workshop. Final draft for the new curriculum for 2 levels: Beginner and pre-intermediate to be submitted to SFCG on or before the 20trh September, 2016 in English 2.3. Deadlines • Deadline for finalising the curriculum for level 1 and level 2: 30th of September 2016 2.4. Logistical Support SFCG Lebanon will provide the consultant with logistical support by: • Ensuring that the consultant receives key documents in a timely manner. 2.5. Consultant’s Qualifications SFCG Lebanon seeks an experienced consultant with the following qualifications: Proficiency in Arabic and English Experience in curriculum development. Experience in working with international organisations Strong communication and writing skills Understanding of and experience working with youth empowerment programming in Lebanon Ability to be flexible with time and work schedule Attention to detail and ability to meet tight deadlines Available for future evaluation contracts with SFCG Conflict resolution/peace building experience 3.
