About “Partners for Justice” project
Partners for Justice is a project that is being implemented by Search in partnership with ABAAD-Resource Centre for Gender Equality (ABAAD). The project’s overall objective is to Reduce Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) in Lebanon through: 1) engaging men and boys to work with women and girls to become allies and champions of gender equality and prevention of VAWG, and 2) promoting a shift in communities’ attitudes in target areas around the permissibility of, and assumptions related to VAWG. The project is being implemented in five different locations including South Lebanon, Mount Lebanon, Beirut, Beqaa and North Lebanon. The project engages Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) through their youth representatives in addition to the engagement of media professionals who are being enrolled in several trainings, capacity building workshops, initiatives and to lead media campaigns.
Important Guide to the Trainer - The training is expected to be guided by the following key considerations in the development of the training guide and it application:
- The role of media in creating social change especially when tackling topics related to human rights, gender equality, diversity and inclusion, VAWG, men engagement and masculinities;
- The media strategies for awareness raising and advocacy purposes at different levels - how to tailor awareness raising and advocacy messages to fit into different media platforms;
- How to assure the resonance, responsiveness and relevance of the final media product(s) to the needs of the communities and the project’s objectives;
- Social media listening and response strategy (what to expect and how to reflect);
- Best practices to deliver socially and communally sensitive messages in a strategic manner for maximum effect;
- New multimedia tactics and techniques, and how to use them effectively in the new media to highlight their work on awareness raising & advocacy campaigns;
- The training will guide the trainees in the development of their advocacy plan for the campaigns through the use of the tools provided by the trainer.
Position Summary
Search is looking for a trainer who can facilitate a “Media for Social Change” workshop. The workshop will be held in person between the periods of July 31 till August 3, 2021 . The four day workshop aims to enable youth leaders and young media professionals within the “Partners for Justice” project to design, develop and produce positive and powerful messages that aim at challenging social norms around masculinities, debunking stereotypes and taboos in relation to VAWG, and showcasing positive and equitable masculinities within the national campaign. The trainer shall be working with representatives of youth-led organizations and young media professionals who will be encouraged and guided to develop components of the national campaign, and messages that nurture a change of perceptions and attitudes and trigger a behaviour change in the wider community audiences.
The position holder will more specifically have the following Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The trainer will guide the participants into developing a deeper understanding of the community needs and to translate those needs into effective awareness raising and advocacy messages through customized communication and awareness raising and advocacy activities. The design and application should be related to the media’s ability and capacity to influence community members to shift their perceptions and attitudes around masculinities and VAWG.
The Trainer will perform activities in accordance with the programme and project objectives set out below:
Roles and Responsibilities
In coordination with Search and ABAAD, the trainer will be responsible for:
- Attending an induction meeting with Search and ABAAD;
- Review the national campaign concept/materials;
- Attend meeting with the national campaign’s director;
- Submit a clear and detailed methodology for the 4-day workshop including workshop materials, tools and an Agenda to be validated by Search;
- develop and submit an evaluation forms, pre and post tests in Arabic to be validated by Search;
- Conduct the training in which a pre/post tests should be administered to each participant to show the level of knowledge at the start of the training and the change - knowledge increase at the end of the training.
- Present a draft training report for validation by Search
- Present a separate pre and post test analysis as an annex to the draft training report Submit a final report in English.
Required Profile
Education
University degree in media and/or communications with focus on training and advocacy or on any other related field
Minimum requirements that qualifies a potential candidate to apply:
- Excellent knowledge on gender equality and masculinities concepts;
- Proven familiarity with Lebanese context with an good understanding of violence against women and girls and gender related issues;
- A minimum of five (5) years of progressively advanced professional experience in delivering trainings and working in the mentioned field (advocacy, social campaigning, strategic management, etc.) using participatory approaches;
- Sensitivity to cross-cultural dynamics and experience working with NGOs;
- Strong analytical and conceptual thinking skills; able to understand highly complex issues and translate them into simple, workable actions and plans;
- Experience in creating, designing, developing and monitoring advocacy campaigns online and offline related to human rights, gender equality, diversity and inclusion, women’s issues, men engagement and masculinities is a plus
- Excellent communication skills and high flexibility;
- Fluency in Arabic and English is a must.
