English Language Teacher And Focal Point

SFCG proposes to build on the lessons learned and best practices of the implementation of Rainbow of Hope from 2014 to 2016 and implement an improved 10-month program starting September 2016 targeting 240 Host Community and Syrian children aged 6-11 years old. The updated program will use a storytelling learning approach to teach English and promote conflict transformation principles through a 1½ hour English classes for each of the two levels twice a week and 1 weekly recreation session. To provide greater continuity and engagement in light of this adapted schedule, project staff will hold intensive English class schedules during winter and spring vacation periods when students have more free time to participate in the program. In order to continue engagement with those students who have already participated in previous years of ROH, SFCG will divide students into two levels based on English language ability, age and previous participation in RoH. Another element of SFCG’s improved engagement strategy will include greater outreach to parents of the participants SFCG proposes a renewed project that includes the following new developments: ● Start using an integrated and comprehensive curriculum for both the English and recreation sessions, with the participation of local partners, teachers and animators. ● Divide the participants into two levels based on their English language abilities, ages and previous participation in RoH. ● Reduce the weekly hours of instruction to encourage greater attendance while introducing intensive sessions during vacation periods. ● Seek greater engagement with parents through the creation of an active parent’s committee. RESPONSIBILITIES: The successful consultant will act as a teacher and a focal point for Search whereby he/she will 1.Teach one and a half hours of English language classes for each of the two Levels based on Toolkits developed by SFCG, twice a week for the period of 6 months; 2.Attend a capacity building and conflict transformation workshop (“the Workshop”) at a location to be determined by SFCG on the 25th, 26th and 27th November, 2016; 3. Attend  a one day refresher training half way through the duration of the project at a location to be determined by SFCG; 4. Identify and select a total of 40 participants (6 - 11 years old), 50% from Host Community – 50% Syrian. Each class will be comprised of 2 levels. Level 1 for beginners and level 2 for advanced students. The Consultant is responsible for 1 class and should recruit a total of 20 participants in level 1 in one community and 20 participants in level 2 in the same community, while ensuring gender balance; 5. The same participants recruited for the English classes will also attend the recreational activities; 1. Arranging the transportation and refreshments of the children to and from the classes and recreational activities; 2. Identify and ensure the readiness of the different locations to host the English classes and the recreational activities;  Identify 2 animators per class to facilitate the recreational activities during the weekends in each location, who will also attend the Workshop prior to the implementation of the project. He/She is 1.Responsible for ensuring proper monthly reporting and collecting participants attendance sheets from the animators, as well as the following: a. Following up with animators on a weekly basis Monthly Coordination meetings with the teachers and animators to discuss challenges and achievements (attendance, logistics, and any other concerns or achievements) Regularly updating SFCG with any concerns, challenges, and achievements 2. Engaging the parents of the children in the project throughout its lifetime and identifying a maximum of 5 active parents to form a parent’s committee for each level, as well as organize parents’ committee meeting every 2 months to advise and guide the project; 3. Organize two mini-camps during winter and spring break for 3 days each (4 hours per day) where the both the animators and the teacher will work together with the participants; The Consultant is responsible for providing SFCG with a monthly financial report, and narrative reports.
