Gender Advisor - Lebanon

Position Summary 

The Gender Advisor – Lebanon will support a portfolio of peacebuilding projects in Lebanon, in developing, implementing, monitoring and evaluating high quality and results­ oriented gender-related programmes, strategies and systems. This includes guidance on project-specific strategic direction, ensuring technical excellence and overseeing the quality of programmatic work. A strong background in gender, conflict analysis and peacebuilding will serve to integrate and shape project-related outcomes.

Search Lebanon   

Search for Common Ground (Search) is a non-governmental organization working to transform the way the world deals with conflict. We have acquired over 35 years of experience in peacebuilding and are based in over 30 countries around the world. Search first worked in Lebanon in 1996, addressing multiple issues arising within Lebanon's diverse society. In each project we seek to engage all stakeholders to work together to address shared challenges and develop joint solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for ensuring gender sensitivity in the implementation of project activities while guaranteeing  good quality action and credible outcomes;
  • Provide high quality technical advice to the Lebanon team on the integration of gender in design, implementation and evaluation of peacebuilding projects;
  • Build the expertise, skills and capacity of the team to develop, implement, monitor, and manage high quality, results-oriented gender programming;
  • Produce enhanced indicators and evidence on gender-related peacebuilding programmes;
  • Integrate gender-sensitive/ gender-mainstreaming indicators across Lebanon’s peacebuilding projects;
  • Facilitate learning and knowledge-sharing for projects with a strong gender component;
  • Provide effective communication and representation, expanded partnerships, heightened visibility for Search’s gender work in Lebanon;
  • Support ongoing capacity-building efforts of staff members, particularly in specific thematic areas relevant to gender; women, peace and security, and women’s empowerment and inclusion;
  • Identify new opportunities for Search involvement in gender and peacebuilding in Lebanon;
  • Stay informed of the international gender and conflict transformation field to ensure that the program’s work remains innovative and professional;
  • Work closely with the regional gender advisor to ensure Search internal policies and guidelines are adopted in Lebanon office.

 As job descriptions cannot be exhaustive, the position-holder may be required to undertake other duties that are broadly in line with the above key responsibilities.

 Minimum Qualifications

  • Masters’ degree in Interdisciplinary Gender Studies, Social Sciences or other relevant subject (Master’s Degree preferred).
  • Minimum of five years of related experience and demonstrated track record of having substantively contributed to programming on gender; women, peace and security; and/or women’s empowerment and inclusion.
  • Experience working with media and drama stakeholders is a major asset.
  • Extensive experience working in and/or knowledge gender mainstreaming; women, peace and security; women’s inclusion and empowerment.
  • Strong knowledge of and experience in conflict transformation, dialogue, negotiation, and mediation approaches.
  • Experience working on Engaging Men and Boys for Gender equality is an advantage.
  • Demonstrated experience in setting up and managing monitoring systems and initiating regular evaluations of programs’ gender-related results and indicators
  • Ability to work with people at all levels, ranging from high-level officials to community leaders.
  • Dynamic leader with creative problem-solving skills, particularly in challenging situations.
  • Spoken and written fluency in English and Arabic.
