Project Manager

Search for Common Ground (SFCG) is a non-governmental organization working to transform the way societies deal with conflicts. We have acquired over 30 years of experience in peacebuilding and are based in 53 local offices worldwide. SFCG first worked in Lebanon in 1996, and we opened up our office here in 2008. The issues we address are multiple, such as conflicts arising within Lebanon's diverse society, tensions resulting from the increasing influx of Syrian refugees, security sector reform, as well as women’s socio-economic empowerment. In each project we seek to engage all stakeholders and strengthen local capacities in order to create sustainable change and increase social cohesion. Summary of Position The project manager will be responsible for providing expertise and guidance to SFCG Project Coordinators in the implementation of project activities. S/he will work closely with SFCG Lebanon staff, local partners, civil society organizations and stakeholders to ensure timely and quality implementation of all activities. The project manager will oversee day-to-day progress of activities and will ensure that the implementation of all projects is meeting SFCG quality standards, is completed on-time, within budget, and to maximum effect. This includes providing a regular presence with stakeholders and networking contacts with local government, international and local agencies. The project manager will be responsible for guiding and coaching SFCG staff and resources devoted to all projects in conformity with SFCG’s internal operating practices. S/he will also collaborate closely with the MENA team, as well as trainers and technical experts working on the projects to ensure the deliverables are of high quality, and delivered in a timely manner. Responsibilities Provide support to SFCG coordinators in project activities such as: - Developing and maintaining proactive and professional relationships with SFCG coordinators, local partner organizations, other NGOs, donors, politicians, key government officials, civil society groups, religious groups, media outlets, etc; - Advise on implementation of project activities ensuring good quality action and credible outcomes; - Advise on implementation of trainings as part of projects’ activities ensuring good quality action and credible outcomes; - Oversee the development of training curricula for the projects currently being implemented by SFCG Lebanon; - Advise on the implementation of inter-cultural dialogue; education and psycho-social support activities. - Share his/her expertise in the implementation of peacebuilding projects in sensitive and volatile contexts with Project Coordinators; - Maintain regular written and oral reporting with SFCG’s Country Director; - Advise SFCG Lebanon office on maintaining responsible media coverage of program events and issues related to SFCG mission and programming in Lebanon. As job descriptions cannot be exhaustive, the position holder may be required to undertake other duties that are broadly in line with the above key duties. Requirements and Qualifications -          Bachelor’s Degree in a related area (Master’s Degree preferred), preferably in conflict resolution, international studies, peace-building, human rights or related area. -          Minimum of 5- 10 years of related experience, including project financial management experience. -          Experience in education, psycho-social support and/or gender issues and Security Sector Reform will be an asset. -          Familiarity with the practice of conflict resolution and the Lebanese context.   Skills • Proven ability to negotiate multiple relationships with various partners. • Dynamic leader with creative problem solving skills, particularly in challenging situations • Excellent interpersonal and networking skills   • Spoken and written fluency in Arabic and English and/or French. • Track record of curriculum development for training in a broad range of context and subjects. • Track record of conducting inter-cultural dialogue between highly divided communities. • Strong oral and written communications skills. • Demonstrated writing and grants management skills. • Cultural sensitivity and adaptability. • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Microsoft Excel. • Strong organizational skills and attention to-detail.
