Project Manager – Syrian Civil Society Support

Search for Common Ground (Search) is a non-governmental organization working to transform the way the world deals with conflict. We have acquired over 35 years of experience in peacebuilding and are based in over 30 countries around the world. Search first worked in Lebanon in 1996, addressing multiple issues arising within Lebanon's diverse society. In each project we seek to engage all stakeholders to work together to address shared challenges and develop joint solutions.

Summary of Position

The Project Manager will manage of a 9 months project that aims to promote the collaboration between Syrian Civil Society actors and strengthen the capacities of Syrian agents of change in mediation and conflict resolution.

The Project Manager will work closely with all relevant stakeholders and oversee day-to-day operations and implement the project’s activities, ensuring that the program is on time, within budget, and delivers high-quality results.

The Project Manager will supervise a project officer, a project M&E officer and the Syria Analyst and work under the supervision and guidance of the management team. He/She will work closely with different departments within Beirut office, the MENA team, as well as trainers and technical experts working on the project to ensure the deliverables are of high quality, and delivered in a timely manner.

Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the implementation of project activities in a timely manner ensuring good quality action and credible outcomes.
  • Provide guidance related to supporting Syrian civil society organizations in conflict transformation.
  • Develop and maintain proactive, positive and professional relationships with all relevant stakeholders.
  • Responsible for the management and reporting on project activities, ensuring timely grant reporting and compliance with contract and donor guidelines in coordination with the local partners.
  • Develop and maintain project records such as databases, reports and records of decisions.
  •  Implement the financial and administrative systems necessary for the execution of the project.
  • Ensure compliance with Search’s policies and procedures.

As job descriptions cannot be exhaustive, the position-holder may be required to undertake other duties that are broadly in line with the above key responsibilities.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree Development, Political Science, International Affairs, Social Sciences or other relevant subject (Master’s Degree preferred).
  • Minimum of five years of related experience in project management.
  • Experience working on conflict transformation in the Lebanese/Syrian context is a major asset.
  • Familiarity with the Syrian conflict and civil society networks.
  • Previous experience working with Syrian civil society and in a similar project is considered an advantage.
  • Proven ability to negotiate multiple relationships with various partners.
  • Dynamic leader with creative problem solving skills, particularly in challenging situations.
  • Spoken and written fluency in English and Arabic.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to-detail.
