Syria Program Specialist/Adviser

 

Summary of Position

Search is seeking a Syria Program Specialist/Adviser to provide expert advice during the implementation of projects that aim to strengthen the capacities of Syrian civil society actors. The Syria Program Specialist/Adviser will work closely with project implementation, analysis, and program development teams to inform decision-making for current and future projects. This will include coordinating between Search’s various Syria-focused programs, establishing and maintaining the necessary relationships with local and international stakeholders, assisting in research, and providing guidance on context, security and logistics.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate between Search’s various Syria-focused programs.
  • Foster and maintain communication with regional experts, conflict resolution practitioners and leaders of civil society organisations.
  • Help facilitate partnerships between Search and local and international actors.
  • Provide strategic direction for current projects and future programming.
  • Liaise with M&E and research teams to support all research conducted on Syria, including facilitating access to relevant stakeholders and providing insight and analysis on Syria.
  • Advise program staff on the changing political and security context inside Syria, and the potential impact of regional and international developments on program activities.
  • Contribute to donor reports and communications.
  • Contribute to fundraising for programming in Syria.
  • Present oneself as a representative of SFCG, embodying Common Ground principles.
  • The Consultant may be required to undertake other duties that are broadly in line with the above key duties.
  • Requirements and Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree, preferably in International Relations or Middle Eastern studies, Conflict Resolution, Peacebuilding, Human Rights or related area.
  • Minimum of five years of experience, and a minimum of three years working on Syria.
  • Extensive knowledge of the Syrian conflict, peace process, and regional dynamics.
  • Extensive network of key Syrian and international actors working in and on Syria.
  • Previous experience working with Syrian civil society and in similar peacebuilding projects.
  • Familiar with donor guidelines for implementation of projects focused on Syria, and procedures to ensure project compliance.
  • Previous experience in conflict transformation, mediation, NVC, leadership, dialogue facilitation and/or related fields.
