CONTEXT
IECD is a French development organization operating in the field of international solidarity. It was established in 1988. It is the leading NGO in the launching of projects dealing with socio-economic development in cooperation with local institutions. IECD started working in the Middle East region in 1989 in Lebanon where it conducted several projects across the country. It eventually opened a regional office in Beirut in 2007 from which it implements and monitors all of Middle East projects. IECD focuses on 3 main core topics: vocational training and professional integration, support to MSE’s and access to education and health.
In 2013 in Tripoli Semeurs d’Avenir and IECD, in collaboration with Tripoli Municipality, launched a plan to improve the employability options for poorly qualified vulnerable youths. The enormous influx of Syrian refugees had dramatic repercussions on the economic situation of the region, which was already heavily affected by poverty. Young people are the worst hit by the economic instability and unemployment.
“Formation Courte au Liban” (FCL) program aims at bringing professional skills to young Lebanese, Syrian and Palestinian refugees through short-term qualifying training programs which are targeted to promising local labor markets: construction apprenticeship, maintenance and healthcare assistance. These training programs are combined with a personal development component, which includes community activities and the general improvement of personal skills.
