PSS Facilitator

SHiFT is a social innovation hub leading the transformation of post-conflict and/or marginalized zones towards peaceful and prosperous communities. It brings people together and bridges differences through building capacities, raising awareness, creating opportunities, promoting success models and mentoring. Within its partnership with UNICEF, SHiFT will be operating a short term pilot project dedicated to protection mainstreaming across most vulnerable children in the area of Amerken, Bekkar, Jabal, Tebbane and, Mashroue el hariri in Tripoli. Throughout this intervention SHiFT is seeking the expertise of outreach workers to help through the community mobilization process.

SCOPE OF WORK

The Pss Facilitator works closely with the outreach worker and the project officer to ensure community mobilization efforts are conducted in the best way possible in the areas of operation. The main objectives of community mobilization activities are:

  • Dissemination of information regarding available services provided by SHiFT and other humanitarian actors
  • Mobilization and referrals of children to participate in activities and access services offered by the SHiFT program, including case management for POC’s.
  • Assessment of safety and security risks faced by children within their communities and development of strategies to mitigate these risks
  • Capacity building of community members, and particularly Adolescent boys and girls by provision of psychosocial support curricula.  
  • Advocate for community-based solutions to enhance protection of Children

Who this position reports to: Project officer

RESPONSIBILITIES

Community Outreach and Mobilization

  • Conduct information and awareness sessions with children in the community to disseminate information about available services and key protection concerns
  • Identify and assess new communities to be engaged in activities
  • Maintain regular contact with community focal points to ensure a constant flow of information and feedback
  • Identify and engage key “gatekeepers” within the community to ensure access of SHiFT teams and promote participation of the community in activities

 

Risk mitigation activities

  • Support community outreach workers and community members in developing advocacy messages and strategies to address and/or mitigate risks faced by Adolescent boys and girls.
  • Facilitate referral of identified needs to humanitarian organizations and other service providers, ensuring follow up and feedback to the community

 

Psychosocial Activities

  • Collaborate closely with social workers to organize psychosocial activities in or out center.
  • Identify communities with psychosocial needs and make recommendations for the provision of psychosocial activities in priority locations
  • Implement PSS activities.
  • Disseminate information at the community level about the purpose and importance of psychosocial activities and support for children and adolescent boys and girls.

 

Monitoring and Reporting

  • Regularly document outreach and community mobilization activities using agreed tools to highlight key protection and safety concerns affecting children.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

  • At least six months experience working or volunteering in direct contact with community members
  • Ability to engage with community members in an open manner, maintain confidentiality and respect.
  • Clear understanding of gender inequality, and issues surrounding violence, neglect, sexual exploitation and abuse…
  • Positive and professional attitude, able to organize, maintain composure and prioritize work under pressure, work overtime when necessary and be able to coordinate multiple tasks and maintain attention to detail.
  • Ability to work as a member of a team essential.
  • Fluency in Arabic

Preferred

  • INGO or NGO experience
  • Experience working with refugee population
  • Skilled at using basic computer programs – Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Ability to communicate in English and write clear and concise reports in English
  • Degree/diploma in Social Work, Community Mobilization, Public Health or other related field is a plus.
