Trainer for Countering Hate Speech and Racism Against the Refugees

Shadda Media Lab was established as a media platform and shared workspace for media producers in Tripoli. Shadda's mission is to promote peace, positivity, and empathy through informative, entertaining, and realistic content. This effort aims to directly engage marginalized communities in Tripoli, providing them with a safe space for content creation and offering necessary equipment for innovative content development.

We are looking for a dedicated and innovative trainer specialized in addressing hate speech and racism on social media, particularly against refugees. The trainer will be involved in leading a comprehensive training program for 15 participants from diverse Lebanese and refugees’ communities residing in Lebanon. The program will span 32 hours and focus on understanding, identifying, and effectively combating hate speech and racism directed at refugees in Lebanon.

The Trainer’s primary responsibility will be to design and conduct training sessions that empower participants, who are influencers and content creators on social media, to counter hate speech and racism. The training topics will encompass recognizing harmful narratives, strategies to combat discrimination, ethical content creation, and constructive dialogue promotion. The training should be engaging, interactive, and tailored to participants' media experience and cultural backgrounds.

Main Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Deliver interactive and practical training sessions that equip participants with tools to counter hate speech and racism.
  • Adapt the training content to the specific context of Syrian refugees and the challenges they face in Lebanon.
  • Collaborate with mentors to ensure participants receive consistent support and guidance beyond the training.
  • Consider the technical capabilities and resources available for effective training delivery.
  • Foster a safe and open learning environment that encourages dialogue and skill-building.

 

Technical Trainer's Role:

  • As a technical trainer, you will be responsible for imparting practical skills and strategies to participants, enabling them to effectively address hate speech and racism through various media forms. You will:
  • Demonstrate how to create content that promotes empathy, understanding, and positive interactions among diverse communities.
  • Teach participants how to identify and respond to different forms of hate speech and racism on social media.
  • Provide hands-on guidance on utilizing multimedia tools, video editing, and graphics to create impactful content.
  • Offer practical exercises and simulations that enhance participants' ability to engage in constructive conversations online.
  • Continuously assess participants' progress and adapt training methods to meet their specific needs.
  • Encourage participants to apply learned techniques to real-world scenarios, fostering a sense of responsibility and positive change.
  • Your expertise will play a pivotal role in equipping participants with the skills and confidence to actively counter hate speech and racism, contributing to a more inclusive and harmonious online environment for Syrian refugees in Lebanon.

 

Qualifications and Experience

  • Certification and experience in media, communication, or related fields.
  • Strong facilitation and organizational skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Experience in conducting impactful training sessions.
  • Sensitivity to conflict-related issues and discrimination.
  • Proficiency in English and Arabic, both written and verbal.

 

Professional Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years of professional experience in media, communication, or related fields.
  • Demonstrated ability to navigate unexpected challenges.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of effective strategies against hate speech and racism.
  • Relevant degree in a related field.
  • Proficiency in using social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, etc.
  • Outstanding communication skills, both written and verbal.
