Intern. Support The Development Of The Project: Institutionalizing The Principle Of “Treatment As An Alternative To Prosecution”

Background Skoun is a non-profit, Lebanese organization that was established in 2003 as the first outpatient therapeutic facility in Lebanon. Skoun's activities are primarily focused on three main areas of interest: Treatment, Prevention and Advocacy. Skoun's work in the drug policy reform centersin advocating for the rights of people who use drugs through different projects and activities including, but not limited to, improving drug related policies focused on health, legal justice and social inclusion, promoting the provision of Harm Reduction services, proposing amendments to the Lebanese Narcotics Law, rights education and empowerment and providing legal aid. Skoun's Advocacy department has been primarily funded by Open Society Foundation since 2012. Projects funded are aimed at promoting the rights of people who use drugs and enhancing access to justice and preserve human rights.  At the end of 2016, Skoun began a new project titled: Institutionalizing the Principle of "Treatment as an Alternative to Prosecution" aiming to further uphold the Lebanese drug law that stipulates access to healthcare for drug users in Lebanon as opposed to penalization and incarceration. Tasks and Responsibility  The person will work under the direct guidance and supervision of the Drug Policy Coordinator. He/she will support the implementation of the said project and the promotion of its outcomes and follow-up activities.  The main responsibilities will be: Attend drug-related court cases in justices palaces of Beirut, Baabda, Zahle, Saida and Tripoli Monitor and document drug related court cases at the assigned region Undertake research, maintain records in a systematic manner and retrieve necessary materials with maximum speed and accuracy Other tasks/duties as requested  Expected Qualifications In order to be considered for the position, the applicant should meet the following criteria: Motivated and inspired to take concrete actions for drugs policy reform Conscientious and efficient in meeting commitments, observing deadlines and achieving results Excellent and effective writing skills  Outstanding communication skills  Strong belief in Human Rights Understanding of the Lebanese Judiciary System and its functions  Proficiency in Arabic

- Law, political science, international relations, education, communication or related fields.
-Have at least two years of professional experience.
-Understanding of the Lebanese Judiciary System and its functions.
-Proficiency in Arabic (understanding and speaking).
