Creative Lead - Bread&Net 2025

Job Overview: Bread&Net is an annual conference that explores critical issues at the intersection of technology, human rights, and social justice. Bread&Net 2025 will focus on bringing together activists, technologists, and policymakers to foster dialogue, collaboration, and innovation. The visual identity of Bread&Net plays a crucial role in amplifying its mission, creating a strong connection with its audience, and ensuring a cohesive and impactful presence across digital and print platforms. The Creative Lead will develop and execute the visual branding and communication assets for Bread&Net 2025, ensuring consistency, creativity, and alignment with the event's values and theme.

SCOPE OF WORK: The selected candidate will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following duties and responsibilities:

Brand Development

Designing a comprehensive visual identity for Bread&Net 2025, including:

  • Logo and wordmark
  • Color palette
  • Typography
  • Style guide

Event Materials

Creating assets for the event’s promotion and communication, including: Digital banners, social media templates-Email headers and newsletters-Presentation templates-Flyers, posters, and brochures.

Onsite Branding

Designing physical and digital materials for the event, including: Stage backdrops and signage, Wayfinding graphics, Badge designs and lanyards.

Website and Multimedia

  • Working with the web development team to design website layouts or provide web-optimized visuals.
  • Creating motion graphics or short animations for promotional videos, if needed.

Detailed Social Media Assets

The designer will create high-impact, visually engaging, and consistent social media designs for social media platforms. This includes:

Pre-Event Posts

Call for Proposals

  • Posts announcing the opening and deadline for submission.
  • Reminders (e.g., "1 week left to submit your proposal").
  • Carousel-style visuals explaining the submission process and criteria.

Registration Announcement

  • Posts announcing the opening of registrations.
  • Countdown reminders ("3 days left to register!").
  • Posts with QR codes or links to the registration portal.

Theme Announcement

  • Posts introducing the Bread&Net 2025 theme.
  • Explainers or infographics breaking down the relevance of the theme.

Event Build-Up Posts

Speaker Announcements

  • Individual speaker profiles with their photos, bios, and session titles.
  • Group posts for panel discussions or keynote sessions.

Schedule Posts

  • Daily session schedule graphics.
  • Highlighted sessions or workshops of the day.

Partner Announcements

  • Posts highlighting sponsors, media partners, or collaborating organizations.

During the Event

Live Updates

  • Templates for live posts covering ongoing sessions, quotes, or photos.
  • Stories or reels designs to showcase real-time updates.

Engagement Posts

  • Interactive posts (e.g., polls, questions, quizzes) to engage attendees online.
  • Posts thanking participants for sharing their experiences online.

Post-Event Posts

Event Highlights

  • Graphics or reels summarizing key moments from the event.
  • A thank-you post for attendees, speakers, and partners.
  • Documentation
  • Posts linking to video recordings, reports, or session notes.

Save the Date

  • Teaser posts for the next Bread&Net edition.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in graphic design, visual arts, or a related field.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) and other graphic design software.
  • Demonstrated experience in both brand identity and creative campaign design.
  • Excellent understanding of design principles, typography, and color theory.
  • Understanding of the digital rights environment in the West Asia and North Africa (WANA) region.
  • Proven ability to manage, mentor, and inspire a design team, providing guidance and feedback to ensure high-quality deliverables and professional growth.
  • Familiarity with SMEX's core work and a shared commitment to human rights values, including privacy, users’ rights, digital surveillance, data protection, freedom of expression, accessibility, open culture, etc.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively present and discuss design ideas.
  • Fluency in both Arabic and English, including spoken and written communication.
