Researcher

SMEX is looking for a researcher to join its growing Research Unit to carry out research tasks and provide support for different types of research projects. This is a full-time position with the possibility of growth within SMEX’s Research Unit. 

Responsibilities

• Conducting research for different research tasks, analyzing and interpreting data.
• Helping ensure evidence-based research drives SMEX work.
• Conducting quality control of relevant research outputs, reports, and other publications. 
• Support with the development of relevant methodologies.
• When time permits, the researcher can propose and implement their own research under relevant supervision.  
• Drafting blog posts and articles to help explain and disseminate our research and data 

Qualifications

• Strong commitment to human rights. 
• A proven intermediate-level experience of working on digital rights in West Asia and North Africa (WANA) (three to five years).
• A good understanding of technology’s human rights impacts. 
• Proven and strong research skills.  
• Fluency in Arabic and English (able to conduct research in both languages). Fluency in French is a plus. 
• Excellent communication skills. 
• BA in a related field such as human rights, journalism, media studies, or international relations.
