Climate Change Expert

Climate Change Expert

Project Background

Funded by Robert Bosch Stiftung foundation, the Hima for Peace project is in Kayfoun and Shemlan villages in Mount Lebanon. Kayfoun and Shemlan are two neighboring communities where a long history of tension existed specifically during the civil war. Currently, the two villages share a common water resource, which triggers conflicts between them, especially within the economic crisis that Lebanon is facing. The project aims to reduce the tensions between these local communities that are sharing the natural resource. It also aims to develop an increased knowledge for local communities on the sustainable management of natural resources, climate change impacts on the community, and the benefits of integration with surrounding communities, based on the application of the Hima approach. The gained knowledge will eventually lead to improved relations between and cooperation among local communities – ultimately, tensions will be reduced. Thus, there’s a need for a climate change expert to conduct a climate change assessment in both villages and raise awareness on climate change through giving one training session on that topic for Homat al Hima groups in the region.
