With the protraction of the crisis in Syria, over one and a half million refugees in Lebanon as-per UNHCR, and an equivalent number of vulnerable Lebanese, are currently experiencing increasingly worsening living conditions and heightened tensions (both between Syrians and host communities as well as between Lebanese sectarian groups). This is having a severe impact on the fragile political dynamic within Lebanon, with an increasing number of vulnerable Lebanese being pushed below the poverty line, and a massive and rapid strain on public services and resources in communities across the country.
The Syrian crisis, and subsequent influx of refugees into Lebanon, has put immense strain on public services, particularly at Municipality level. The destabilizing consequences of the rapid increase in Lebanon’s population have been recognized in the Lebanon Crisis Response Plan (LCRP) through Community Support Project (CSP). CSP, which is defined as a key component of the response strategy, will improve social stability by implementing projects targeting sources of tensions and/or priority as defined by the community at the local level.
The proposed action aims to address the most pressing needs at a community level in order to mitigate rising tensions between refugees and the host communities
