Communications Officer

Work Context: Sonbola is a startup grassroots NGO that focuses on delivering educational programs, specifically to fill the gaps of Syria’s education crisis and address the education of Syrian refugee children and youth, with a special focus on quality and sustainability. Position Purpose: The overall purpose of the Communications Officer position is to efficiently manage the visibility of Sonbola on social media outlets, online platforms, and offline arena. The Communications Officer will be responsible for maintaining the professional image of Sonbola and promote its programs and activities. Major Responsibilities: The main responsibilities of the Communications Officer include developing Sonbola’s communication strategy and plan, managing the social media pages, enhancing the website, and promoting Sonbola image. Responsibilities should be handled and applied within the spirit of Sonbola’s mission, vision, and scope of work. 1-    Main Responsibilities Develop Sonbola’s communications strategy and plan to match its mission, vision, and objectives Create a strategy for online visibility that includes social media channels and other digital outlets Coordinate the maintenance, development, and expansion of Sonbola’s website Develop and monitor Sonbola’s communication channels Implement social media actions including posting, editing, and photos/videos selection Create and develop offline communication tools including flyers, posters, and roll-up banners Writing Press Releases and contacting Media (Radio, TV, Newspapers, etc.) Ensure the proper projects’ branding 2-    Other Responsibilities Assist in Sonbola’s activity coverage including archiving photos and videos Produce special projects such as multimedia initiatives, campaigns, trainings and movies Develop relations with journalists and media outlets including establishing and maintaining a database of media contacts Ensure the media coverage of Sonbola’s events and projects through producing media advisories and press releases, pitching Op-Eds to newspapers and online media outlets, and maintain an archive of this media coverage Systematic communication and reporting with the Executive Director   Required Personal Qualifications: Passion and empathy towards Sonbola’s mission Strong artistic skills Excellent communication skills Fluency in both Arabic and English languages Ability to work under pressure Task-oriented individual Good team player Capability to work in a culturally heterogenic area
