Shadow teacher

The role of a shadow teacher is to support the student that needs Optimal Learning OL, support, in his/her school academics by helping fill in the gaps in the learning process, to help the student build self-confidence as well as to promote positive interaction with his peers and over all help the child to develop academic and social skills.

The role of the shadow teacher in the village is to help his/her student:

  • stay focused while studying
  • help the child with his studies
  • participate appropriately in activities;
  • notify the education if he does not understand the material;
  • function in an environment where there are many distractions;
  • be positive in his/her approach to new tasks; and helping him/her to gain self-control.
  • improve communication skills;
  • encouraging him/her to ask for help from his/her teachers, pedagogical team and caregivers;
  • having him/her share special interests with other children;
  • helping him/her to respond appropriately to his/her peers in social situations;
  • seeing that he/she compliments his peers when appropriate;
  • prompting him/her to initiate discussions with his/her peers;

Shadow teacher duties:

    • Complies with all rules and policies in regards to child safeguarding and PSEA
    • Assists educator in the development of the child’s individual goals and objectives.
    • Sets up and maintains appropriate learning environment.
    • Attends and participates in required meetings.
    • Collaborates with therapists, school team and pedagogical team at SOS to create holistic intervention plans.
    • Maintains accurate daily progress notes, data collection and completes all paperwork in a timely manner.
    • Maintains discretion and confidentiality of child information at all times.
    • Alerts pedagogical team to any problems or social information about the child.
    • Communicates professionally at all times with children, all other staff members, and other providers.
    • Performs daily activities such as, but not limited to, homework, reading, playing and doing activities with the child, and organizing of the physical space.
    • Monitor child’s behavioral patterns and arrange appropriate interventions when needed
    • Manage child crises and resolve conflict

 

Qualifications:

    • Ability to deal with stress
    • Good knowledge of current special education topics and methodologies
    • Experience working with children with a wide range of disabilities
    • A patient, resourceful, and resilient personality
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
