Mission of the position: The primary role of the Village Director is to be ‘father’ to each SOS child and family. As ‘father’ he takes an active part in the growth and development of each child, ensuring their physical, emotional, social and spiritual welfare. The Village Director must live within the Village and be available for the children any time of the day or night. In addition, he supports the Mothers and other staff in working towards the best interests of the child.
Key performance areas and main responsibilities:
- Acts as the Leader of the SOS Children’s Village
- Acts as ‘Father’ to the Children
- Provides Support and Guidance to the SOS Mothers
- Guides the Educational Development of the Children
- Builds a Committed and Effective Staff Team
- Develops Good Relations with Sponsors and the Community
- Child Safeguarding (CS)
- Responsible to raise awareness of the SOS Child Protection Policy principles and to prevent and protect children/young people from all forms of abuse, abandonment, exploitation, violence and discrimination
- Ensures strong focus on CS prevention by organising informal and formal discussions, workshops and other capacity buildings activities for young people to make them understand CS risks and protection mechanisms
- Responsible to report any CS suspicion, concern, allegation or incident immediately, following Child Safeguarding reporting procedures. CS reports should be made to the CS team at programme level and/or to the respective line manager
8. Protection from sexual exploitation and abuse (PSEA)
- Take appropriate actions to prevent and reduce the risk of SEA in areas of operation, including through awareness-raising, training, SEA risk assessments, child safeguarding and other measures;
- Take disciplinary action in response to proven misconduct, in line with relevant internal administrative policies and procedures.
