Social Worker – Relief Programs
(Full-time Monday- Friday 8:00AM-3:30PM)
Tahaddi is a Lebanese NGO established in 2008 whose aim is to respond to the challenges of extreme poverty by facilitating access to education, health, and psychosocial support. Tahaddi principally works in Hay el Gharbeh, Southern Beirut with families facing extreme economic and social hardship. We operate a community-based primary care clinic and a non-formal education center for children who are denied access to formal education for social and/or economic reasons.
Tahaddi Lebanon is currently searching for a Social Worker – Relief Program to join their team.
Reports to: Psychosocial (PSS) Center Director
Position Overview: The social worker’s primary function is to coordinate the Syrian relief program. She/he will work in close conjunction with the social work team. She/he will report to the Director of the Psychosocial Center. Working within the community, he/she will assess family situations (both strengths and areas of needed support), conduct home visits and connect families to internal and external resources. She/he will oversee the distribution of relief support including monthly food vouchers, cash assistance, household items etc. The social worker will also triage cases, dealing with some concerns while referring more complex cases to the broader social work team. She/he will plan and facilitate at least one weekly community support group. The social worker will be asked to keep detailed reports about the family status and provide regular narrative and statistical reports in-line with donor requirements.
Provide social service counseling for families, identifying ways to strengthen, support & guide them. She will work in close coordination with the PSS team.
- Share information about rights and services available to displaced families both within Tahaddi and through external partners and agencies
- Coordinate day-to-day project activities related to the assessment and distribution of aid for Syrian families (food vouchers, household supplies etc.).
- Conduct home visits to assess household needs (accompanied by the social work assistant)
- Coordinate activities of the social work assistants
- Keep detailed narrative and statistics records and provide timely reports as requested
- Attend relevant meetings and training
Weekly support group:
- Plan, lead and facilitate at least one support group program in coordination with the community and social work team. Participants may include for example adolescents, elderly, women, men etc.
- Share a plan and summary of each session in a report format
Needed qualifications:
- BA level degree in social work with at least three years of experience
- Full commitment to Tahaddi’s core values of justice for all, integrity and compassion and commitment to serve deprived families with empathy and respect
- A desire to work with families facing considerable economic and social pressure
- Excellent listing skills with training in Psychological First Aid
- Fluent Arabic language skills (written and spoken). French and English are desirable with at least one at a functional level
- Computer literate, be at least familiar with Microsoft Office software package
