Social Worker - Tahaddi Community Health Center

  Job Opening: Social Worker   Tahaddi Lebanon (www.tahaddilebanon.org) is a growing local NGO focused on education, social services and health care for families facing extreme economic and social conditions. Tahaddi’s two centers are located in Hay el Gharbeh (Southern Beirut, behind the Sport City).   We are looking for a Social Worker with skills in working at the community & family level.   Position Overview: The Social Worker (SW) will be based at the Tahaddi Health Center (THC). She/he will work in close coordination with the social work team, an integral part of the health team that supports families facing health concerns. The SW will receive immediate supervision and guidance from the senior social worker, and ultimately he/she will report to the director of the health center.  He/she will triage cases coming to seek social service assistance at the center, respond to some cases directly while referring more complex needs to the senior social worker.  Working within the community, he/she will assess family situations (both strengths and areas of needed support), conduct home visits and connect families to internal and external resources. As an integral part of this position’s responsibility, the SW will accompany individuals on medical visits, to government and UN-affiliated agencies and to other service providers to offer support and patient advocacy when required. The SW will be asked to keep detailed reports about the family status and provide regular narrative and statistic reports in-line with organizational requirements.  About Tahaddi: Candidates must be in alignment with Tahaddi’s core values of: justice, integrity, and compassion. He/she must be ready to work in an economically disadvantaged area and show respect and empathy towards the community.   Job Description for Social Worker This position will provide support to a busy social work department that functions as an integral part of the Tahaddi health services.   Medical Social Assistance Program:  -          Receive and listen to the requests of families visiting the center or who are referred by the medical team. Share information about services available to them both within Tahaddi and through external partners and agencies, explaining necessary procedures and patient rights. -          Triage and prioritize cases - referring complex and urgent cases to the senior social worker. -          Distribute agreed upon financial assistance, accompany patients on appointments as needed, providing support and if needed acting as an advocate for patients with government and UN insurance providers. -          Liase and follow-up with external partners within our referral network to make needed appointments, follow-up on joint cases, settle bills, pick-up investigations, medications etc. -          Conduct home visits with nurse and physician, when needed. Follow a set number of families with significant health concerns. -          Actively participate in case management meetings -          Keep detailed narrative and statistical records and provide timely reports as requested Needed qualifications: -          Bachelor degree in social work required. -          2-3 years of relevant experience ideally in a busy community-based setting and experience working with families facing considerable economic and social pressure. -          A full commitment to Tahaddi’s core values and humanitarian mandate -          Fluent Arabic language skills (written and spoken). French and English are desirable with at least one at a functional level. -          Diplomacy and maturity in dealing with community members of different backgrounds -          Good listening skills -          Good organizational skills -          Able to keep confidentiality -          Patience and compassion with clear personal boundaries -          Empathy with the situation of the families without judgment or condemnation -          Equity between patients with regards to gender, age, race, religion or political preferences -          Ability to cope with a dynamic and changing work environment -          Computer literate, be at least familiar with Microsoft Office software package -          Good oral and written presentation skills
