Social Educator

Terre des hommes- Lausanne is in search for a qualified Social Educator.

Job Purpose / Main Functions:

  • The Social Educator is responsible for conducting daily psychosocial activities for children, raising awareness activities, arts and crafts for children and organizing community events. These activities include: structured CBPSS sessions, arts and crafts based on children’s interests an SDC’s priorities, special events and learning activities throughout the year.
  • He/she will be working on identifying high risk cases and accordingly referring to SDC’s case workers, as well as children and families who can benefit from other service provisions.
  • A significant component of the Social Educator’s role is to work with the PSS Senior Technical Advisor and CP Senior Technical Advisor in order to ensure that child protection is mainstreamed through the activities, the Tdh’s tools and practices are applied and the pair work with SDC’s staff is taking place.
  • Moreover, the Social Educator will update and maintain relevant reporting requirements to Project Manager: Activity Info, weekly sitreps, protection monitoring, referrals, trends and patterns as well as activity evaluation sheet

Duties & Responsibilities / Context  (Tasks) :

  • Organize and conduct daily psychosocial activities for children
  • Accompany children and families to SDC to facilitate access to service provisions
  • Identify and refer cases of children to the SDC’s case management team
  • Identify and refer cases of caregivers eligible for training and development opportunities
  • Oversee the Safe Spaces Learning Spaces, to ensure smooth running and quality implementation of activities
  • Document Trends/patterns child protection concerns on a weekly basis
  • Maintain and update: PSS database, activity sheets, activity evaluation forms, activity info, monthly beneficiary reporting, trend forms, Sitrep on a weekly/monthly basis
  • Identify and implement PSS activities in both SDCs and Mobile Units
  • Maintain contact with families of children-disseminate information, materials and NFI’s as and when required
  • Conduct pre/post questionnaires in all locations of intervention-following standardized protocols accordingly
  • Conduct awareness raising sessions, arts and crafts sessions
  • Oversee and support team of community engagement s through their direct implementation in mobile and center based activities
  • Build the capacity of SDC’s staff through pair work, join planning and design of activities, sharing of tools and practices and learning exercises
  • Participate in coordination meeting with other Social Educators of the Project.

Organizational Policies:

  • Respects the Tdh’s Global Code of Conduct (GCD), Child Safeguarding Policy (CSP), Prevention from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse Policy (PSEA) and Policy on Gender and Diversity and its principles of child protection, ensuring the policy’s implementation and prompt notification of the CSP/PSEA Focal Point with any information regarding potential breachs of the policy
  • Is aware of, abides by and promotes the practices and values set out in all other Tdh policies and procedures such as the Internal Regualtions, Standard Operating Procedures and other policies
  • Report any breach observed in the framework of this policy during his/her professional activities both as regards the proven or suspected offence and a preventive breach
  • Participate actively in weekly and monthly coordination meeting with the line managers

Others:

  • Support the other teams and his/her line manager
  • Undertake all other duties that may be requested by the line-manager and that are compatible with the job.

Experience:

  • Experience in conducting psychosocial activities for children
  • Proven experience working in challenging situation;
  • Experience in working with children (mandatory);
  • Experience in working for an NGO/ humanitarian organization preferable
  • Experience in recreational activities
  • Experience in Child Protection

  • Reporting and database entry skills (basic Microsoft word and excel);
  • Personal qualities: communicative, flexible, network-builder, able to handle pressure well and work in cross-cultural setting.
