The new project of Terre des Hommes Italy (TDH IT) aims at providing Child Protection case management service in the North-Bekaa. Moving from the established TDH community centers of Arsal and Jdejde, 2 mobile teams composed by 3 caseworkers each. The intervention is designed following up the needs observed within the TDH operational areas over the past 3 years. Survival sex, domestic violence, violence in schools, neglect and lack of access to services, child labor, children with disabilities, children showing PS distress, unaccompanied or separated children, denial of humanitarian access to children are the main problematic issues that the project intend to address trough individual case management. The Project is developed in strict coordination with the Child Protection and Psychosocial activities developed by Terre des Hommes Italia in the North of the Bekaa, through the collaboration with municipalities, local and refugee communities and MOSA in 6 centers (including Community Centers and SDSs) and in outreach.
General duties and responsibilities:
The Psychologist will ensure quality case management of Child Protection cases by providing technical support, informing the beneficiaries about all available services, helping in drafting of cases’ action plan and, referring to adequate services. The Psychologist will also ensure continuous guidance to CP teams and case workers in supporting and in collaboration with the Case Management Specialist.
Specific duties and responsibilities:
Under the direct responsibility of the CM Project Manager, and in close collaboration of the CP case workers and CP social workers teams the psychologist will:
The Psychologist will monitor the service provision and ensure that cases under assistance receive all the care and support needed.
Also he/she assists the CP case workers in the detection of most vulnerable cases.
Provide a clinical assessment on identified cases.
Following assessments of specific protection needs, extremely vulnerable cases will be supported through the strategy of the cases managed, including defining the need of emergency support that involve cash
Provide guidance and support for the case workers who are working with the identified children and adolescents at risk, and their caregivers,
In case o f extrem vulnerable cases the psychologist will promptly support the provision to the beneficiary of access to immediate, safe and multi-sectoral services through structured referral,
Support the development and establishment of internal and external referral and coordination mechanisms for assistance to children at risk in cooperation with MOSA, UNICEF and UNHCR or other relevant actors
Participate in the targeted recreational activities in the Child Friendly Spaces or informal life skills trainings in identified premises
Organize and facilitate regular peer-led Focus Group Discussions FGDs: conduct group discussion with individuals, families and hosting communities
The Psychologist, together with the PSS team, will regularly organize and facilitate briefings on Child Protection related issues to local networks, key community members (such as refugee community focal points), as well as authorities in order to raise awareness on diverse protection concerns and encourage timely referral.
Support the CP case workers quality case management and general TDH IT staff (of all projects) by offering trainings to ensure that protection issues are mainstreamed in field interventions and detection of cases can be efficiently referred in timely manner.
Ensure a daily quantitative and qualitative reporting through specific reporting tools that will be deficined at the inception of the program, also with her/his support
Support the identification of specific and urgetn needs on psychosocial and psychological issues of the project’s beneficiaries, as well as to contribute to the assessment of these needs
Participate in the formal and informal meetings with the team, and contribute to a qualitative analysis of the different kinds of issues, at individual, familial and community level
Participate in the reporting of activities and evolution of the beneficiaries situation
Participate in case management meetings as part of the CM
Qualifications and experience
Advanced degree in Psychology or behavioral sciences.
At least 3 years of professional work experience at national levels in fields relevant to child protection, proven technical expertise in case management is an asset.
Ability to formulate strategic documents for programming, engagement, and coordination involving organizations and Government.
Experience in and knowledge of Syria situation and response is considered a strong asset.
High-level communication skills, including ability to speak formally, negotiate, demonstrate tact and diplomacy, and advocate for child protection issues with humanitarian community and authorities.
Demonstrated experience in building capacity of teams and staff.
Fluency in English, and Arabic.
Commitment to the aims, principles and values of TDH IT.
Ability to work well in a team and under pressure and in response to changing needs.
Ability to plan well, set own targets and meet them.
