Communications Officer

Intro: Terre des Hommes Italy (TDH- IT) is implementing an EU- funded (‘Madad Fund’) education project, ‘Back to the Future’ in consortium with AVSI (lead agency) and War Child Holland. The consortium will support formal and non-formal activities for vulnerable preschool and school aged boys and girls (over 3 years old) in Lebanon and Jordan. Activities include; school rehabilitation, remedial classes, foreign language classes, homework support and PSS activities. TDH- IT is recruiting a Communications Officer to work for the consortium to support the implementation of the ‘Back to the Future’ project, aimed at building the resilience of Syrian Refugees and affected host populations through educational and PSS activities.  Job Purpose: With an anticipated start date of 1st April 2017, TDH IT is seeking a Communications Officer to support the consortium Communications Manager (based in the Netherlands with missions in the countries of operation) with the development and delivery of the project communications plan in Lebanon and Jordan. The Communications Officer will be based in TDH IT’s Beirut office, and is expected to travel to Jordan 3- 4 times per year to support the consortium’s communication activities in Jordan.  Key Responsibilities: -       Support the consortium Communications Manager – CM (based in the Netherlands) with the development and delivery of the Project Communications Plan, including designing and updating a calendar of public communications events in Europe, Lebanon and Jordan. -       Support the CM to participate in the Project Leading Committee preparing material and other resources as requested -       Supporting the CM in coordinating the work of the consortium Communication Officers -       Regularly update and report on the progress of the Communications Plan and Events Calendar. Report on site visits (unique user numbers) relating to the project (Facebook, project website, Terre des hommes project webpage) etc. -       To champion and monitor on behalf of the CM the use of ‘Back to the Future’ brand and style guidelines, and key messages in project communications. -       Support the CM in Producing multi-media communications content (either alone or in collaboration with technical specialists) for the project, including but not limited to: Website content (i.e. images, videos, project fact-sheets, beneficiary stories/interviews, project progress reports, and info- graphics); Social Media content. The Communications Officer will be responsible for regularly posting project updates (i.e. news articles, activity/beneficiary photographs, beneficiary stories/quotes and project success stories) on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter, and managing user’s comments and interactions with the posts; Direct Mailing Campaign content. The Communications Officer will be responsible for designing and providing content for direct mailing campaigns in Europe. This may include designing brochures, leaflets, postcards and funding support letters. Public Event content (i.e. presentations, project fact-sheets, project brochures/leaflets, and photo books). The Communications Officer will support field staff in setting up and running Public Events. Filmed content. Identify inspiring beneficiary stories and produce filmed case studies in collaboration with technical specialists. Develop a body of project communications materials; photo library, project fact-sheets, leaflets, info-graphics etc. -       Support the regional (Lebanon and Jordan) Media and PR activities- contact researchers, journalists and news outlets to attend project events, visit project sites and to cover project activities in their respective publications. -       On behalf of the CM or with his support, and in coordination with partners, accompany the Project Managers during Donor field visits in Lebanon and Jordan. -       Support the CM to provide training for consortium project and field staff on the communications plan/strategy and provide guidance/delegate responsibility on how they can contribute to the production of communications materials. Consortium communications focal points working in North Lebanon, South Lebanon, Aqaba and Amman will regularly provide communications materials to the Communications Officer for inclusion in online, direct mailing and public event campaigns. Where feasible the Communications Officer will visit consortium members project sites to support with communication materials development.  -       Ensure that all project visibility is in line with EU visibility regulations and respects TDH and the consortium ’s brand identity. -       Be prepared to travel to Jordan 3 -4 times per year to support the consortium in Jordan to implement the communications plan. -       Support the organization of the media/communication missions from the Nederland and Italy, as foreseen.   Experience and competencies: Essential: Significant demonstrable experience covering a broad range of communication methods, particularly: a. Writing/editing/sourcing case studies. b. Interviewing a range of audiences. c. Building a case for support and reporting on impact. d. Editing and producing publications e. Working with the media f. Using a Website Content Management System (CMS) Previous communications role within a Lebanese NGO/INGO working in Lebanon Experience of working with technical consultants (photographers, film makers, web developers) to produce communication materials/products. Knowledge of marketing principles and experience targeting marketing activities to specific audiences. Good organisational skills and an ability to assess opportunities and challenges and then prioritise. Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to liaise confidently within the office, with colleagues internationally and with external contacts Excellent attention to detail especially in written work Excellent written and spoken English and Arabic (French an advantage) Computer literacy in MS Office and familiarity with Adobe Creative Suit Ability to travel without restriction to Jordan for field visits. Willingness to stay overnight in field locations (Lebanon and Jordan).   Desirable: Photography skills (including photo editing abilities) Skills in producing materials for web based platforms Experience in managing social media communications for an NGO
