**RECRUITMENT ANNOUNCEMENT**
The Lebanese Transparency Association is hiring a Legal Assistant Intern for the “Lebanese Advocacy and Legal Advice Centre” program.
Position Title: Legal Assistant Intern
Position Type: Full Time
Location: Beirut.
Background: The Lebanese Transparency Association (LTA) was established in May 1999, as the Lebanese chapter of Transparency International. It is the lead organization in Lebanon focused on curbing corruption and promoting good governance. LTA brings together business people, academics, economists, lawyers, and intellectuals to fight corruption, improve the quality of life, and encourage civil society to take measures towards transparency and accountability.
LTA launched the Lebanese Advocacy and Legal Advice Center (LALAC) four years ago to generate dialogue on corruption issues. The purpose of LALAC is two-fold: it provides victims and witnesses of corruption with free legal assistance and advice so that they can pursue their corruption-related complaints; and it harnesses powerful, real life data on the mechanisms and consequences of corruption. LALAC is then able to more effectively engage in strategic advocacy initiatives, and to better translate citizens’ concerns into structural change in institutional policy and practice.
The primary responsibilities of the Legal Assistant Intern are to:
Under the supervision of the LALAC Legal Advisor, manage the LALAC hotline and receive calls from citizens making complaints.
Provide legal information to citizens about their rights; help citizens in identifying potential weakness in their cases and ways to overcome them; and refer citizens to the Legal Advisor for compiling and drafting complaints.
Organize and update the LALAC database.
Liaise with local partners and the LTA communications department to publicize LALAC’s services, and to advocate for reforms and legislation.
Assist the Legal Advisor in the preparation of guide books, recommendations for legislation, and other relevant materials.
Coordinating in drafting quarterly newsletters.
Organizing in coordination with the Program Manager outreach sessions.
The Legal Assistant should have the following qualifications:
