Section: Communication  Title: Communication Consultant (Communication Materials and campaigns) Reporting to: Chief of Communication  Duration: 06 months Location: Beirut, LebanonContract type: Individual SSA Objectives: To ensure that UNICEF Lebanon Country Office Communications Strategy is implemented successfully to bring to the highlight the situation of Syrian refugee children and the children of Lebanese host communities. The post will support Mass Communication initiatives and campaigns (Polio, routine immunizations, water conservation etc…). Background :As the Syria Crisis enters its fourth year the need to highlight the plight of the situation of Syrian refugee children in Lebanon is more critical than ever. A key aspect of raising donor awareness is the production of high quality communication and advocacy products (human interest stories, photos, videos, social media posts) to highlight the plight of the most in need children. The consultant will contribute to the production of such materials either directly or by supervising/assisting contracted service providers. Scope of work :Under the direct supervision of the Chief Communication, the consultant will have to:1) Support to health, protection, WASH and Education Communication Workplans:Under the supervision of the Chief of Communications ensure that Mass Communication aspects of the Communication Workplan are followed up and inputs from the section are provided as needed.- With support from Chief of Communication and Communication specialists, provide support in formulating communication messages in Arabic in English.- With support from Communication specialists ensure supply needs as outlined in the workplan document are procured in good time2) Support CRC@25 public eventUNICEF Lebanon is marking the 25th anniversary of the signing of the Convention on the Rights of the Child with a photo exhibition in collaboration with Zakria – The Image Festival. The event will take place on 20 November 2014.- Follow up on planning with Zakira (as the main organizing partner of the event) on needs and requirements for the event.- Liaise with Zakira staff and Communications Officers to ensure that all budget or logistics shortfalls are covered.- Under the supervision of the Chief of Communication be lead focal point for media preparations for event.3) Support to the production of emergency communication and advocacy materials:- Support LCO communications section’s efforts in producing print and multi-media communication materials.- Contribute to developing written and visual materials for UNICEF’s web platforms. - Keep abreast of developments in the humanitarian field notably in Lebanon, and of relevant studies and assessments. Summarize pertinent information and distribute with colleagues, also feeding into social media outputs.- Assist the communication section in any event, press conference, meeting when deemed necessary. Deliverables and Schedules Deliverables:- Human Interest Stories, multimedia products (video and photo), support with script writing and production of multi-media products as needed,- Monthly reports on media and communication activities organized and undertaken by consultantSchedules:Reports on activities undertaken and support provided to the communication section are to be submitted to the Chief of Section at the end of each month for the duration of the assignment. Timing Period: August 2014– February 2015; Duration: 06 months Reporting Requirements Cf. Deliverables and Schedules Profile Requirements Education - University degree in Communications or Social Sciences. Work Experience- Three years of progressively responsible and relevant professional work experience in communication, marketing or PR in UN agency or International NGO.- A relevant Master degree with, at least, one year of relevant experience can be taken in lieu of extensive professional experiences.- Fieldwork experience and exposure to emergency refugee programs is essential.- Public speaking and presentation skills are an important asset.Language Proficiency  - Excellent writing skills in English and Arabic are essential.
