Communication Consultant (Field Mission Support & Logistics)

Section: Communication  Title: Communication Consultant (field mission support & logistics) Reporting to: Communication Specialist  Duration: 11 months  Contract type: Individual SSALocation: Beirut, Lebanon Objectives: Support to the production of emergency communication and advocacy materials, and support to field trips. Background: As the Syria Crisis enters its fourth year the need to highlight the plight of the situation of Syrian refugee children in Lebanon is more critical than ever. A key aspect of raising donor awareness is the production of high quality communication and advocacy products (human interest stories, photos, videos, social media posts) to highlight the plight of the most in need children. Scope of work:Under the direct supervision of the Communication Specialist, the consultant will have to:- produce communication material either directly or by supervising/assisting contracted service providers,- organize, facilitate and accompany field missions to support Media, UNICEF National Committees and High-Level visits, to gather advocacy materials and allow for a deeper understanding of the challenges facing refugee children and their families in Lebanon in addition to the situation of Lebanese host communities- develop working relationships with UNICEF implanting partners and UNICEF programme sections to allow for visit agenda setting and will accompany media and visitors to the field as needed Deliverables and Schedules:Deliverables:- Provide monthly reports on visits organized by UNICEF LCO communications section in support of advocacy and media activities.- Agendas for media, high-level and Natcom visits prepared as requested. - Mission reports on each mission organized to be prepared within reasonable time.- Provide Human Interest Stories, multi-media products (video and photo), support with script writing and production of multi-media products as needed.Schedules:Reports on activities undertaken and support provided to the communication section are to be submitted to the Chief of Section at the end of each month for the duration of the assignment. Responsibilities: Within the delegated authority and the given organizational set-up, the incumbent will be assigned to the following major duties and task:Support to the production of emergency communication and advocacy materials:- Support LCO communications section’s efforts in producing print and multi-media communication materials.- Liaise with UNICEF’s national and international implementing partners in order to facilitate media coverage of UNICEF funded projects.- Contribute to developing written and visual materials for UNICEF’s web platforms. - Keep abreast of developments in the humanitarian field notably in Lebanon, and of relevant studies and assessments. Summarize pertinent information and distribute with colleagues, also feeding into social media outputs.- Assist the communication section in any event, press conference, meeting when deemed necessary.Support to Field Trips:Ensure media and National Committee field trips are organized efficiently with close collaboration with filed hubs, programme officers and NGO partners.- Liaise with media, national committees, programme staff, field hubs, and NGOs to put together media-friendly programme for a field visit.- Oversee logistics and other preparations for the visits.- Accompany delegations to the field as needed and requested by Chief of Section- Support in facilitating interviews as needed including translation and interpretation- Support with preparation of briefing materials and packages for visiting delegations Timing Period: September 2014– July 2015; Duration: 11 months Reporting Requirements: Cf. Deliverables and Schedules Profile Requirements:Education:- Completion of secondary education is required. A relevant university degree (communications, journalism, digital communications and social media) is an asset. Work Experience- Five years of progressively responsible and relevant professional work experience in communication, marketing or PR in UNICEF, UN agency or International NGO. Higher university degree can be taken in lieu of work experience. - Fieldwork experience and exposure to emergency refugee programs is essential. Language Proficiency  - Excellent writing skills in English and Arabic are essential. French an important asset.
