1. General Background
The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) is mandated to lead and coordinate international action to protect and assist refugees and other persons of concern.
Private Sector Partnerships Service (PSP) sits within UNHCR's Division of External Relations (DER) and is responsible for mobilizing resources from the private sector for refugees. UNHCR have developed a $1 Billion Private Sector Fundraising Strategy 2018-2025. This strategy focuses on both Individual Giving and Private Sector Partnerships and identifies priority fundraising markets and regions.
Individual Giving (IG) is targeted at the general public to secure the support of individuals through regular, unrestricted donations, cash appeals and legacies. The aim is to generate both monthly and one-time donations from individuals using various channels and methods including direct mail, face-to-face fundraising, telemarketing, digital fundraising, DRTV and emergency fundraising, with focus on strong donor loyalty and lifetime value.
The purpose is to maximize the donor base from the individual giving (IG) for UNHCR, those with the ability to provide donations of between $1 to $10.000 per year to UNHCR.
In support of IG Programmes in the Gulf and MENA region, PSP needs to hire a donor care assistant who will be responsible to raise funds from donors and prospects in line with overall unit objectives and target.
2. Purpose and Scope of Assignment
Under the supervision of the Associate PSP IG Officer the Fundraising Agent is expected to provide support in the following areas:
The incumbent will be tasked with the following duties and responsibilities in relation to the above areas:
• Raise funds for each assigned campaign and regularly meet or exceed fundraising targets
• Research donors and prospects to gain insights and understand donors
• Actively engage donors via various fundraising techniques including calls, emails, follow ups to raise funds, steward, upgrade and retain these donors
• Create donor journeys from design to implementation as required for the different segments
• Support the Donor Care Associate with putting in place key journeys for regular giving and upgrade to middle donors
• Handle donor cases and requests in a timely and efficient manner
• Create surveys that will help understanding the database better and create a mechanism to loop back the gathered insights to the team
• Constantly feed the team with donors' insights and feedback to help improve and redirect campaigns and creative content creation.
• Knowledge of CRM and other available marketing tools to perform tasks as required
• Promote the values and ideals of UNHCR in the conversations with the prospects
• Actively participate in weekly team meetings and in UNHCR related meetings and activities
• Perform any other related duties that may be required.

• Successful completion of Secondary school education with further studies in Business, marketing, sales or another related field.
b. Work Experience
• Minimum one-year (added advantage with a bachelor’s degree) years of relevant work experience,
• Previous experience in fundraising or the NGO sector is an advantage
c. Key Competencies
• Effective Scripting - capable of tailoring the script based on each conversation and the ability to have interactive (not lecture style) conversations
• Emotional Intelligence and good communication – able to communicate the passion and the urgency of their proposition over the phone, and trigger inspiration and empathy (strong story-telling techniques are desired)
• Active Listening and Interpersonal Skills – ability to build rapport with prospects before attempting to make the donation ask, and to make donors feel a connection between donating to UNHCR and the achievement of positive change
• Effective Objection handling – able to acknowledge objections and deal with rejection without becoming discouraged
• Technical skills: knowledge of how to use CRMs and marketing tools
• Good Learning Skills – ability to acquire the organizational knowledge to present the organization and its work effectively and answer prospects’ questions accurately
• Cultural awareness and sensitivity – ability to adequately respond to and interact with the nuances of the Gulf culture and communities
