Internship ‐ Human Resources Unit - INT067 - Beirut, Lebanon

There are close to one million Syrian refugees registered with UNHCR in Lebanon, which continues to be the highest refugee-hosting country per capita in the world. With no approved camps in the country, refugees are living in more than 1,700 locations across the country. The Syrian refugee response is led by the Government and local actors, supported by the international community.

As the designated lead agency in the refugee response, UNHCR has established a sector-based structure in Beirut and in the field. The structure brings together over 100 UN agencies, national and international NGO partners in identifying and agreeing on the strategic priorities to address the needs of Syrian refugees and other affected populations. The Lebanon national response falls under the Regional Refugee and Resilience Plan (3RP), whereby UNHCR guides the refugee response and UNDP facilitates the resilience and stabilization component.

The UNHCR operational response in Lebanon is one of the largest for the organization. Media and donor attention and the frequency of influential high-profile visitors are high. The Office has some are located in Beirut, Zahle, Tripoli, Tyre, and Qobayat.

Working under the supervision of HR Officer and with the support of the HR Team the Intern will be requested to assist and provide support on HR Services, which entail helping in the recruitment process, organizing and daily follow up on administration, developing training material as well as following up on employee inquiries related to entitlements and allowances. The work carried out at UNHCR Lebanon will be in compliance with the studies of the incumbent and will help develop his/her competencies related to human resources, client services, staff welfare and career management.

Accountability (key results that will be achieved)

  • The HR Intern will be part of the team supporting HR activities in the Office including providing assistance in all elements of the recruitment process.
  • The Intern will support the daily HR activities and staff requests, while having the opportunity to contribute to the development of the established staff services platforms.
  • The intern will assist the team on coordinating induction and training session and follow up on requests from the office and the field.

  • Support HR Unit by tracking and following up on staff requests and inquiries
  • Support the HR Unit in organizing learning and induction sessions in different venues
  • Assist and proper follow up on administration
  • Perform other HR duties as required

ESSENTIAL MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE REQUIRED.
Define the educational background, the relevant job experience and the language(s) that are essential to perform the work of the position.
Enrolled in a degree program in a graduate school (or recently graduated) in the field of Law, Business Management, Administration, HR Management, Social Sciences, Organizational Psychology, Information Technology or other HR related fields.
Expected to work full time but flexibility is allowed for the individual educational program
The intern will have to obtain financing for subsistence and make his/her own arrangements for travel, VISA, accommodation etc.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS & COMPETENCIES.
Describe any experience or knowledge that would be an asset, such as: UNHCR Learning Programmes, other training, additional languages, Field/HQs experience, etc.
Outstanding knowledge with Microsoft Office; mainly Outlook, Word and Excel and/or other database software, also qualified in presentations and designing charts, statistics;
Able to communicate effectively with the ability to work independently and also in a team; Good in planning, organizing and structuring various tasks and responsibilities;
Fluent in written and spoken English/Arabic. Knowledge of other UN languages is an advantage; Displays cultural, gender, religion, race, nationality and age sensitivity and adaptability; Responds positively to feedback and differing points of view;
Consistently approaches work with energy and a positive, constructive attitude; Enjoys sharing knowledge and experience.
