There are currently more than one million Syrian refugees registered with UNHCR in Lebanon, which makes Lebanon the highest refugee-hosting country per capita in the world. There are no approved camps in the country, and refugees are living in more than 1,700 locations across the country. The refugee response is led by the Government and local actors, supported by the international community.
As the designated lead agency in the refugee response, UNHCR has established a sector-based structure in Beirut and in the field. The structure brings together over 100 UN agencies, national and international NGO partners in identifying and agreeing on the strategic priorities to address the needs of Syrian refugees and other affected populations. The Lebanon national response falls under the Regional Refugee and Resilience Plan (3RP), whereby UNHCR guides the refugee response and UNDP facilitates the resilience and stabilization component.
The UNHCR operational response in Lebanon is the largest for the organization. Media attention and the frequency of influential high-profile visitors is high. The Office are located in Beirut, Zahle, Tripoli, Tyre, and Qobayat.
In support of the Leadership Giving (LG) and Individual Giving (IG) programmes in MENA, The Private Sector Partnership unit (PSP) needs to hire a creative/conceptual English copywriter to lead on the English digital content for UNHCR's MENA Digital Hub and help tell compelling stories about refugees to the world.
This includes taking the lead on English copywriting and producing top English content including text link advertisements, banner advertisements, emails, site content articles, social media content landing pages, newsletters and letters besides creating straplines, slogans, body copy, jingles and scripts.
Additional experience in design work and visual communications (video production) is considered a plus.
Accountability (key results that will be achieved)
- Conceptually develop compelling and creative campaigns with input from different stakeholders.
- Provide timely English digital content for emails, social media, digital and website.
- Support the delivery of visual communication materials for the digital team.
Responsibility (process and functions undertaken to achieve results)
- Work closely with the digital creative team, to develop creative campaign concepts.
- Develop original and targeted digital copies to drive traffic to various micro sites, landing pages for fundraising purposes.
- Develop highly engaging social media content in English (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube).
- Develop creative content for blogs and news articles.
- Create work that is optimized for the Web. Common Web content writing practices include:
- Succinct, fact-filled content
- An engaging, active tone
- Writing broken up by subheadings
- Use of bulleted lists
- Embedded links throughout the text
- Provide assistance with design and visual communication content for social media.
- Use Adobe Flash, IMovie and or other animation/video software to generate short digital animation clips for campaigns.
- Produce individual campaign tactics with focus on storytelling (e.g., collateral, direct mail, emails, web pages, social media, etc.)
- Perform multi-channel copy editing and proofreading for external digital marketing campaigns, and donor communications.
- Lead efforts to identify new content/communication opportunities, repurpose existing content, and other creative ways and interesting angles for your articles.
- Ensure proper usage of brand, voice, and style, as well as organization, grammar, sentence structure, and punctuation.
- Tailor the content and style of individual writing assignments according to their;
- Identify key messages: understanding the main thing that you want the reader to feel and do and how to communicate this powerfully;
- Perform other related duties as required.

Define the educational background, the relevant job experience and the language(s) that are essential to perform the work of the position.
Bachelor's degree in Communication or Sociology, Journalism, Copywriting, Public Relations or other associated field.
Minimum 6 years professional experience as a Creative Writer, conceptualizer or as a web content writer.
Impeccable spelling and grammar.
Expert writing skills, editing and proof reading abilities in English
Ability to write concise, attention grabbing and hard-hitting copy that puts the message across, especially for digital.
A deep understanding of consumers and what motivates them online.
Experience of graphic design and video software is a plus.
Strong agency background in campaign development and creative copywriting
Must be able to distil complex technical/scientific information into effective campaign-level messaging and develop unique value propositions (experience with new product launches preferred)
Experience in presenting creative work in a visually compelling way to clients and team.
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
Experience with e-mail marketing best practices is a plus
Experience with optimizing content for today’s SEO requirements.
Advanced knowledge and experience in writing and producing content for several digital media channels and digital advertising requirements.
Experience in writing engaging social media content.
