The Senior Registration Assistant is a member of the registration unit within the protection section. The Senior Registration Assistant reports directly to the Registration Manager. S/he has no direct administrative supervisory functions, however, the incumbent is responsible for providing technical support to the Registration Assistants and Receptionists through reviewing of cases during registration activities, providing guidance and protection capacity-building.
The incumbent will also interview complex protection cases to assess eligibility for registration, as well as coordinate protection referrals and follow up with other functional units. S/he will also participate to the process management of the reception centres and provide detailed information to persons of concern regarding assistance and protection. The Senior Registration Assistant is finally responsible for supporting all activities related to the registration/counselling/verification of persons of concern, which may also include functions related to reception, filing, interviews and data management.

UNHCR's Registration Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) are implemented in accordance with relevant UNHCR standards and policies.
Persons of concern have fair and transparent access to registration/counselling/verification procedures.
Responsibility (process and functions undertaken to achieve results)
Counsel refugees and asylum-seekers, managing their expectations on protection, assistance and durable solutions, providing them with information at the reception and in the waiting areas on UNHCR’s procedures, their files with UNHCR and their rights and entitlements;
Identify persons with protection specific needs and vulnerabilities.
Conduct complex protection interviews, maintain the registration/counselling/verification database and provide regular input on daily actions specified above.
Ensure quality and integrity of information captured at registration/counselling/verification, notably through the review of registered cases and follow up with respective functional units.
Identify cases not eligible for registration through in-depth interviews and maintain updated records.
Ensure constant and accurate upkeep of data (physical and electronic) to reflect status of persons of concern by checking that all “proGres” data fields are filled in properly.
Manage and update refugee physical and electronic files as necessary.
Compile periodic registration statistical reports and circulate them to all concerned parties.
Analyse data to ensure data quality and integrity, and report trends and issues as required.
Draft routine correspondence based on instructions provided by the supervisor or based on background information available on office files; and act as interpreter and translator when needed.
Act as the Process Manager for the Reception centre waiting areas, ensuring the process flow and movement of refugees and asylum seekers in a smooth, efficient, organized and fair manner.
Collaborate with protection staff and/or partners on the delivery of assistance and assistance.
Support all activities related to the registration/counselling/verification of refugees and asylum seekers which may also include functions related to reception, filing and data management.
Act as an interpreter and translator, where needed, in case which s/he has the required language competencies;
Participate to possible mobile missions organized to respond to refugees and asylum seekers located in remote areas and/or with extreme vulnerabilities;
Apply anti-fraud safeguards and report known or suspected fraud as per the SOPs;
Perform other related duties as may be required.

Provide guidance to registration assistants on matters related to registration SOPs, protection, eligibility, and assistance.
