MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
The incumbent of this post will be assigned to work in UNRWA’s health centers and is responsible of providing mental health consultations to the patients in the location where he/she is assigned.
(A) Provide clinical interview and assessment within UNRWA health centers and recommendations
(B) Provide psychological support, psycho education (for the beneficiary and his/her care givers) and refer internally and externally as needed;
(C) In collaboration with social workers and/or nurses, conduct awareness sessions to the community, regarding mental health and psychological issues;
(D) Conduct awareness sessions for staff, when asked, regarding mental health and psychological issues;
(E) Coordinate with the staff of UNRWA (nurses, doctors, psychiatrists, social workers and school counselors when needed) for a better case management;
(F) Conduct clinical assessment for special need cases and refer to specialist
(G) Support the PHC on the implementation of the mhGAP-IG training, when applicable;
(H) Report to the senior mental health advisor with whom coordination and meetings will take place to ensure the harmony of the work in different areas;
(I) Maintain a database of counseled beneficiaries and awareness sessions, and manage reporting as required by the Project Manager;
(J) Attend team meetings in LFO;
(K) Report administratively to respective area health officer;
(L) Respect beneficiary confidentiality and address needs and requests in a professional way
(M) Report any incident or act that causes any harm to beneficiary or to others
(N) Performs such other duties as may be assigned.
PERSONAL & PROFESSIONAL COMPETENCIES
(A) Academic and Professional
(i) Masters degree in clinical psychology.
(ii) At least two years of professional experience in psychosocial counseling;
(iii) Basic computer skills.
(B) Experience
Previous work experience in mental health of Refugees
(C) Language
Good command of written and spoken English and Arabic.
(D) Skills and Competencies
(i) Ability to work under pressure.
(ii) Excellent counseling skills and ability to work with female and male children, adolescents, adults and elderly.
(iii) Being up-to-date with the Psychology and Psychiatry literature
(i) Excellent counseling skills and ability to work with female and male children, adolescents, adults and elderly;
(ii) Good knowledge of animation techniques with children;
(iii) Creativity and ability to take initiatives;
(iv) Ability to perform activities such as drawing, painting,
(v) Ability to support in the development of community-appropriate health messages.
(iv) Maintains a professional and approachable attitude towards patients, respecting their confidentiality;.
CONDITIONS OF SERVICE
Salary: As per relevant salary scale.
Contract Duration: 6 months (Non-extendable)
The incumbent will be working on an hourly basis where s/he will cover 3 days per week. Each incumbent should be willing to have a rotational schedule in the different clinics of the agency’s area that s/he will be assigned to. The selected candidate should be available at 4th of April 2016.
EQUIVALENCY
Candidates with an equivalent combination of relevant academic qualifications, professional training and progressive work experience may also be considered.
