Computer Lab Technician

 

Administrative Work:

 

Supervises the use and maintenance of computer lab and equipment; maintains security and proper care of lab equipment including opening and closing facilities;

Maintains a current inventory of resources and their use; establishes and monitors a schedule for the use of the lab and equipment;

Maintains logs, records and files; prepares reports and performs general office duties such as typing and filing;

Works with Field Information and Communications Technology Office and Principals of Training Centre to help insure compliance with computer software copyright laws and policies;

Computer Maintenance:

 

Installs, configures, troubleshoots and maintains new software and operating systems;

Unpacks, connects, installs, configures, troubleshoots and maintains additional hardware including cards, boards and memory or upgrade chips, when allowed by warranty;

Performs minor repair of computers and computer networks in the Training Centre computer laboratories and other computers used by Training Centre staff, when allowed by warranty; arranges for delivery to concerned party for major repairs or replacement; replaces toner cartridges when appropriate;

Diagnoses computer problems to determine cause of malfunction;

Cleans computers on a scheduled basis as directed by the Senior Vocational Training Instructor;

 

Support:

 

Assists Technical Instructor (Computer) in solving problems with the use of hardware and software on various software application packages during lecture time;

Assists administration staff in solving problems with the use of hardware and on various software application packages;

Other Duties:

 

Assists in recommending new equipment and software purchases; consults on the acquisition of software and hardware;

Develops small scale software for instruction or administration use;

Keeps abreast of emerging technologies;

 

Performs such other duties as may be assigned.
