Endocrinologist   Location Tyre area Type of Appointment Contractor (1 post – part time) Deadline for Application 13 February 2015 Vacancy Announcement Number 999/2015 Department/Division Health Programme    MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES In accordance with established Agency policy and procedures, the incumbent: (A)    Undertakes regular visits to UNRWA health Centers according to a rotating schedule in order to provide specialized endocrinologist services to patients referred to him/her by medical officers.  In this respect, he/she is supposed to examine, treat and follow up these patients; (B)    Supports Field office in strengthening and improving the Diabetes Mellitus Program provided be the Agency; (C)    Participates in raising awareness of the public regarding endocrine diseases namely Diabetes Mellitus prevention; (D)   Provides counseling to patients on life style modifications that can improve their conditions such as diet modification and exercise; (E)    Maintains records of all patients with endocrine disorders and provides statistical data and relevant information on such patients to the Field Office; (F)    Plans and directs the in-service training of Medical Officers on endocrine & metabolic disorders of public health importance; (G)   Participates in basic clinical research to help improve treatment protocols.   PERSONAL & PROFESSIONAL COMPETENCIES (A)   Academic and Professional i)    Medical Degree from recognized university ii)   Post graduate specialty in Endocrinology from recognized university. iii)  A valid governmental license to practice medicine in the Field of operation to which he/she is assigned.   (B)   Experience Two years of experience as specialist.   (C)   Language Good working knowledge of spoken and written English and Arabic.   (D)   Skills and Competencies i)    Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to establish and maintain working relationships in a multi-cultural environment; ii)   Problem solving.   CONDITIONS OF SERVICE Salary: As per relevant salary scale (10 working days per month) Contract Duration: One year – part time - extendable according to availability of Funds, to fill one post forTyre area.   EQUIVALENCY Candidates with an equivalent combination of relevant academic qualifications, professional training and progressive work experience may also be considered.     GENERAL INFORMATION UNRWA is an equal opportunity employer and welcomes applications equally from men and women. Upon selection, a staff member may be offered the consultant/contractor contract upon resignation from fixed term appointments and a three month break-in-service.
