Hydrogeologist(Integrated Water Resources Management; IWRM)   Location Lebanon Field Office Type of Appointment Contractor Deadline for Application 14/04/2016 Vacancy Announcement Number 993/2016 Department/Division FICIP   MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES In accordance with established Agency policy and procedures, and under the guidance of the Chief Infrastructure and Camp Improvement Programme, the incumbent will:   Collect, detail and evaluate the water sources data, through regular visits to the camps; Map the water sector actors and identify  potential relevant partners to UNRWA EH strategy; Map the existing water systems in each camp (aquifers, qualitative and quantitative data, boreholes, main networks, treatment plants, main storages, link to waste water network, etc...), in collaboration with GIS officer and based on existing GIS information; Map sources of pollution for each water point, including corrective measures (design upgrade, perimeter of protection, infrastructure modification, re-location of pollution sources, population sensitization) based on national standards and legislations; Evaluate the existing water supply system (sources, storage, network, distribution, treatment, etc.) with optional recommendations for decision by supervisor; Evaluate the aquifer / water sources potentials according to the recharge and current water supply systems (storage, networks and distribution quantities), in relation to the national standards in urban context; Roll out of a hydrogeological data base related to each camp’s aquifer, including quantitative and qualitative information through existing and new surveys; Evaluate and propose systematic plan of action to improve the water level monitoring in each water sources (static/dynamic water level monitoring tools, operators’ training, piezometer installation, etc...); Evaluate and analyse the energy costs for water supply, including the overall running costs for water supply according to the source of energy used (Energie du Liban, generators) to facilitate the identification of sustainable and innovative solutions; Evaluate together with the UNRWA partners the efficiency of the treatment plants in each camp (at technical and financial levels); Evaluate and develop an integrated water resources management tool adapted to the Palestinian Camps; Roll out of an inventory analysis with short, medium and long-term interventions for all water sources in the 12 Palestine refugee Camps in Lebanon; Conduct and map a water quality survey in the 12 Palestine refugee camps in lebanon, including actor mapping on sampling, testing, diagnostic and corrective measures; Develop and contribute to the Capacity Building Programme of UNRWA personnel, including the development of necessary training materials and identification of relevant partners; Develop water technical guidelines and standards for the Palestinian Camps compatible with the national standards (integrated approach); Organize and implement at least 3 one-week technical workshops for UNRWA personnel on integrated water resources management; Participate in internal and external meetings and trainings organized by the EHD team and/or as may be required by supervisor; Prepare and submit cost estimates as may be required by supervisor; Prepare needs assessment with relevant action plans and activities; Prepare monthly reports and/or as may be directed by supervisor.     PERSONAL & PROFESSIONAL COMPETENCIES (A)   Academic and Professional Advanced university degree in one or more of the following areas (hydrogeology, water quality, water resources management)  (B)  Experience   Minimum five years of progressively professional work experience at national or international levels in fields relevant to hydrogeology and water resources management; Experience working in the UN or other international development organization is an asset.   (C)   Language   Fluency in English and Arabic is required French is an asset.   (D)   Skills and Competencies   Able to work under pressure Able to work in a team Independent Good knowledge of Lebanon natural resources Good negotiating and alliance building skill. Good knowledge of key global/ regional development   DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS Microsoft (word, excel, etc.) Epanet software ArcGIS (arcview) Keller probes or equivalent water quality monitoring device Water laboratories (microbiological, physical, chemical analysis and diagnostic) Drivng licence     CONDITIONS OF SERVICE Salary: As per relevant salary scale.
