MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
In accordance with established Agency policy and procedures, the incumbent:
(A) Train and deliver an overview of the mental health concepts/knowledge to UNRWA staff as per their professional categories: school counselor, social workers, and nurses;
(B) Familiarize participants with the intervention guide;
(C) Assist in developing mental health training material based on mhGAP Intervention Guide guidelines and adapt to the local setting at UNRWA centers in relevance to each professional category;
(D) Provide training in the identification and management of mental health cases in a primary health setting
(E) Provide training on mental health promotion, psychosocial interventions and community outreach for non medical staff.
(F) Provide at least one session of group supervision
(G) Provide feedback to mental health project manager;
(H) Work within the framework of the UNRWA referral guidelines for mental health and psychosocial support
(I) Support in any other relevant responsibilities for trainings assigned by the project manager.
PERSONAL & PROFESSIONAL COMPETENCIES
(A) Academic and Professional
(i) Masters degree in clinical psychology with a solid experience in training.
(ii) Valid certificate of trainers in mhGAP-IG
(iii) Administration of at least one training session.
(B) Experience
(i) Previous work experience related to training in mental health.
(ii) Solid experience in training mainly for non-specialized staff.
(C) Language
Good command of spoken and written English and Arabic.
(D) Skills and Competencies
i) Contribute to implementing an integrated mental health services in a primary-care setting, including referral, follow-up and support processes
ii) Demonstrate the ability to recognize a patient suffering from mental health illnesses for referral
iii) Demonstrate and model positive attitudes towards mental health and people with mental illnesses
iv) Demonstrate good communication skills with target population
v) Demonstrate ability to raise awareness on the MH GAP-IG mental health in the community
vi) Know legal and ethical aspects of dealing with patients with mental health conditions
vii) Provide support for families of persons with mental health conditions
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
Previous experience with refugee populations.
CONDITIONS OF SERVICE
Salary: As per relevant salary scale.
Contract Duration: 40 training days in total for all trainers within 4 months - Extendable according to availability of Funds, needs and performance.
EQUIVALENCY
Candidates with an equivalent combination of relevant academic qualifications, professional training and progressive work experience may also be considered.

As a member of the United Nations system, UNRWA maintains a close relatives’ policy. In this regard, if a candidate has a close relative (mother, father, brother, sister, son or daughter) who is already employed by the Agency, he/she can only be employed if the Agency is unable to find another suitable candidate.
UNRWA staff members with fixed term appointments may apply for any consultant/contractor consultancy while in service. Upon selection, a staff member may be offered the consultant/contractor contract upon resignation from fixed term appointments and a three month break-in-service.
Candidates who are no longer employed by the Agency must have a minimum of 3 months break-in-service, before they apply to any consultant/contract positions.
