Implements the day to day operations and follows all relevant Health Department policies, processes, standard operating procedures and instructions so that work is carried in a controlled and consistent manner;
Controls the dispensary of the Health Centre to which he/she is assigned; receives medical supplies from the Field Pharmacy to ensure that all drugs on the UNRWA list of essential drugs are available; arranges the received medical supplies in the dispensary following the standards of First Expiry First Out (FEFO);
Replenishes stocks of medical supplies in the health centre treatment rooms to ensure the availability of required materials;
Documents movements of medical supplies and accounts to enable the Medical Officer In Charge to adequately assess the quantities to be ordered;
Dispenses medication prescribed by the Medical Officer to patients; ensures the correct dosage is prescribed and warns patient(s) of any drug-drug interactions when necessary;
Provides advice to patients regarding the modality of intake of medications, their potential side effects and possible interactions with other medications/foods/supplements;
Advises Medical Officers and other health staff in the health centre on related side effects of medications, possible drug-drug interactions and ensures rational prescribing of medications;
Educates groups and individuals on various issues with regards to medications to ensure effective transfer of knowledge and awareness;
Produces periodic reports regarding the activities of the dispensary with an in-depth analysis of the findings;
Ensures that medicines are properly stored;
Complies with all relevant safety, quality, health and environmental procedures to ensure a healthy and safe work environment;
Performs other related duties as may be assigned.
